Sorry for the short notice...
Hey guys, Apologies for the short notice. I can't attend this week's or next week's live hangs. I have a random Thursday pub gig next week, and I forgot about a social event my wife's attending this evening. So I'm on kiddy duty! However, I've created a Zoom link that requires no host. Fingers crossed it works. So what this means is you can join the call and hang out with your fellow members, socialise, and get to know each other. That'll be for this week and next week. I'm going to record some video tutorials tomorrow and Monday and will post them for you guys to look at, so when I come back, I'd like the call to be geared around answering your questions. Enjoy this evening's call. I hope it works.

@Iain Brown Can't imagine who would talk about Wild Boars on a guitar hang...🐗🐗😜

My plan is to be online for the 8/13 Zoom if anyone else is available.

Not exactly like the lesson in the classroom by @Ben Johnsen I am having lots of fun with it though :) Just have to work on some turnarounds and anything else anyone can suggest. Thanks for watching

@Paul Bridge Well done. I agree with @Iain Brown getting the rhythm down is one of the biggest things you can do that will improve your playing, one of the hardest things to get the timing and hand movements synchronized and least practiced things on guitar, because it is not as fun as solos. You have a good start, keep going.
Something I am Having Fun With
A couple of you have already seen this video but I wanted to post it here and get some feedback from @Ben Johnsen and anyone else with thoughts other than I should pick a different instrument to play. 😂. I have had fun playing around with this backing track, not always the case but for once I had more ideas that I could include unless I wanted a five minute video.

@Iain Brown as always thanks for your positive comments. I have been building bird houses all day, long story but another of those, can you help with “Project Birdhouse” that I got suckered into. I think I am building 20 of them. 🦤🦤🦤I am going to record a version 2 of the solo (maybe Monday) with some of my other ideas. Take care.
A noodle. Knocking on Heavens Door.
Inspired by Paul’s progress towards pentatonic noodling here’s a noodle over diatonic chords. I think this is easier than playing over a dominant blues progression because harmonies come easier? They seem to for me at least. Easier to sound melodic. Anyway keeping it fairly simple I hope, using the Em scale….E natural minor I guess…..but resolving to the G notes where needed? It’s a good YouTube backing : Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door- Epic Backing Track in G ( Solo Friendly).

@Iain Brown played very well. I think your selection of notes and melody worked really well in the track. The more I think about it the more I am becoming a believer of just keep things simple and don’t think too much. I know for me over thinking makes my playing stiff.

@Iain Brown very true. My tendency is to over think and complicate my playing. Just thought of this, maybe that is why so many great songs of the 60’s and 70’s were written when the bands were high, relaxed and just played. 🥴
A motivator to practice effectively for me.
I had quit guitar a year and a half ago because it was hurting my hand. So I took up piano keyboard instead. But I missed guitar and came back to it in late June. I've since found ways to ease the stress on my left hand. Well, while practicing piano I was quite disorganized and found it hard to stay motivated. It dawned on me one day to make a record of what I was practicing and how I was using my time. So I put it in a spreadsheet. One surprise I got from this is that the spreadsheet turned out to be quite a motivator also. I'm posting this in case anyone finds this helpful. The video explains how to use it. A motivator to practice effectively for me. A motivator I call My Gamify success: This is one way I'm successful at acquiring additional motivation to practice, and practice effectively. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-tPQuBDbJ8 Blank spreadsheet template: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1DNGNmAF8M9xiAAfKVdox1_eydozjhNmM/edit?usp=sharing&ouid=111625404969229748291&rtpof=true&sd=true

@Phil Smith Very interesting. I have built a lot of spreadsheets for tracking things but never for tracking guitar playing. I have already thought my playing time might not be what I think it is if actually measured. It is probably less over the last couple months as I know I have spent too much time on YouTube and reading and responding to posts. I have backed off of YouTube, posts and guitar playing the last few days because of too much going on. It has been nice in one way to take a break but then I have the thought of how far I have fallen behind. I think there is no easy way to balance things at time. I am going to download the sheet and give it a try. Thanks
