When someone says..."Just Speak Your Truth...!" (my reaction below)
I wanna hear from you, what do you think? Most people hear “just speak your truth” and think it means blurt it out the second you feel it. But here’s the problem... - Speaking is not the same as communicating. - Communication is an exchange, the goal isn’t just to express, it’s for your message to land and be received. When you drop raw, unfiltered words without consent or timing, it usually backfires.... defensiveness rises, safety drops, and the very truth you wanted to share gets lost in the noise. Real communication is a skill. It’s how you say it, when you say it, and the order you say it in that makes the difference between rupture and repair. That’s why we practice tools like.... - Asking for consent before diving into a hard topic. - Using tiny asks instead of overwhelming demands. - Repairing fast if your delivery lands wrong. Because if your truth matters enough to share, it matters enough to communicate it with care... See you on next weeks call! (under the calendar tab)

@Kole Whitty @Jen Hardy Thank you both for sharing your perspectives! Just the other day I initiated a conversation I thought I was prepared for (I knew how I felt and wanted to share it), but I wasn't prepared for the other person's response and ended up feeding hurt. I wasn't able to repair things as quickly as I should have, but ultimately we did have the second conversation we needed.
1- Minute Check-in
After practicing with NAWI (I finally found a way around the limit), I asked my sister if she'd try it out with me. I shared about us watching Hamilton together and she shared about a conversion we had a few days ago. I don't know if she was really interested in why we were doing it, but her willingness made me feel good.

@Tamara Descoryphees I got that, too! Eventually I started thinking just a little longer before typing in my responses. That way I could make them a little more direct.

@Carrie Beals yes, finding safety is a big one for me
#TinyAsk
I noticed giving a set time and a re-entry point where my son could go back to playing his game was helpful. It allowed me to create a window so it didn’t seem like a long drawn out thing. Although it was his sisters birthday party.

This sounds like a great idea! I'm going to try this with my sister who I butt heads with often because I'm "long-winded".
If you had a theme song today, what would it be?

I am a 45yo female learning that change doesn't always have to be hard. Also, I have Spina Bifida, and am a wheelchair-user.
