What Has to be Provided by a Game?
A game in the context of Gamifying Life needs to change the behavior of the person. Let's say somebody wants to be fit - he/she needs to take action by exercising more or changing diet to achieve the goal. What a game need to provide so the person will succeed? There is a simple Human Behavior Model formulated by BJ Fogg that allows to understand it quickly. He claims that the behavior will occur if there is a sufficient level of motivation, ability, and a prompt. At its core, a game (gamifying life system) must: - remind individuals to take a desired action (Prompt) - generate enough motivation for individuals to at least attempt the desired action (Motivation) - request that individuals perform a desired action within their capabilities (Ability) PS: Consider this post with my previous post - it's just a different formulation of the same.

From my experience, the external impulse (prompt) is the key. E.g. in fixed intervals. As well as "at least attempt the desired action". It's all about getting started. How much or how long you stay on a task, doesn't really matter.
