2A3 MC
Writing 2A3 in September. Struggling with the water treatment especially chemical treatment. Any tips on it?

Hi Fiona, I’m part of the tutor support team with PE101. 2A3 is a very theory heavy exam, especially the various water and wastewater treatment chapters. I suggest a solid review of 3A1 chemistry to give you a good base understanding of chemical reactions. You can also prioritize water pretreatment and boiler water treatment as these combine nicely and are more practical to our field than wastewater treatment.
Supplementary Design Formulas: Code vs Pan Global
Is anyone able to describe/explain the wizardry involved in Pan Global getting to the formula they show in the book vs what the Code (Section VIII-1 2023) shows in Mandatory Appendix 1, Article 1-3? I expect this to be a tricky one to express in a comment on a post so just know I appreciate your efforts.

@John Young I was going to have a look but sounds like you figured it out?

@John Young looks like you’re dealing with some Pan Global inconsistencies. See below for the formula in my book. Different again than the ASME book but more accurate. I suggest sticking with the ASME formula and be sure to reference the ASME edition and paragraph on your exam for each question. About time Pan Global throws in the towel! Haha.

Hello Marcial, I work with the PE101 team. Question #1 answer is B. The other 3 options are very normal uses of blow off connections. Question #2 answer is B. Quick opening bottom blowdown valves are operated by a lever. Which exam are you studying for? Let me know if you would like further clarification. Cheers, Arun

I have millwright ticket and energy management training (CEM). Both jive well with power engineering. Energy management has been great with chief/management roles.

@Manpreet singh Bhatti Industrial mechanic/millwright is an apprenticeable red seal trade. There are different pathways through out Canada and within each province. Generally, you start with a college course, gain work experience, complete a series of smaller courses and exams. Some power engineering jobs overlap with the millwright trade and you may be able to accumulate hours and challenge exams. Your provincial apprenticeship authority would be the place to confirm which pathways are available to you.
