⛽ 20 Years in Oil & Gas: From Greyhound to Grit — A Journey of Tenacity
As I reflect on 20 years in the oil & gas production industry, I’m overwhelmed with gratitude—and a little awe—at how far I’ve come. It all started when I was just 19 years old, as green as grass, riding a Greyhound bus to Fort St. John, BC, with nothing but ambition and curiosity. I was part of the very first intake of the original Oil & Gas Field Operator program at Northern Lights College back in 2005—and I graduated with top marks. But school was only the beginning. I didn’t wait for opportunity to knock—I knocked on doors, shook hands, and built my own path. With my first contract offer in hand, I marched it to a 3rd-party operating company. Then I did something bold: For a week straight, I showed up uninvited at 5:00 AM to a local maintenance company’s morning meeting, and every morning, contract in hand, I told them, 👉 “I need a truck and some tools—I’m ready to work.” Eventually, they gave me that chance—and I’ve been earning my place in this industry ever since. 💡 What’s Carried Me Through: 🔹 Grit—I never took “no” or "can't" as the final answer. 🔹 Tenacity—I kept showing up, always ready to improve myself. 🔹 Curiosity—I continue to look for the next thing to learn and the next way to grow. 🔹 Respect for the Craft— From day one, I understood this work matters. 🌍 Today, I Look Back With Pride The industry has changed a lot since 2005, and so have I. But my belief in resilience, integrity, and earning your way in remains stronger than ever. 💬 To anyone just getting started: show up, stay curious, and be relentless. This industry still rewards those who go the extra mile. Here’s to the journey—and everything that still lies ahead. #OilAndGas #PowerEngineering #FieldOperatorLife #CareerJourney #NorthernLightsCollege #TenacityWins #OperationsExcellence #FromTheGroundUp #Gratitude #20YearsStrong

Hello Power Engineers, I hope you all are doing well. I have a 4th Class Power Engineer certificate and have cleared all my 3rd Class exams, along with 8 months of steam time.
