On vacation? No problem! This is one of the best things about running a freight brokerage. The equipment needed is so minimal you can bring your business anywhere! This is so important as until you are able to hire employees to handle your business while you are away any missed call can be an open door for your competitor!

@Kishore S No thank you, every carrier we use is vetted personally and individually down to the driver.
AI and Double Brokering
With the increased usage of AI in the logistics community, what tools are you going to put in place to safeguard your business when utilizing AI during carrier acquisitions to prevent freight fraud?

@Steven Tittle absolutely. I do that along with when drivers call in self dispatching, I confirm they are able to book their own loads. You never know when a disgruntled ex employee or driver is trying to steel freight using their ex employers identity.

@Bill Robinson Absolutely, another trick I do is I have it mandatory that the certificate of insurance has to come directly from the insurance company to my email address, they cannot forward it or send me a pdf from their own email.

Your customers best interests are your best interests!
You can't win them all, there are time your going to get beat on price, but all hope is not lost when this happens as the lower price usually means lower quality! When this happens your customers will come back to you looking to save the day. You need to make sure you respond ethically in order to save this customer. This is not a time to price gouge or an I told you so. Make sure you take care of your customers and they will take care of you!

Another Double Brokered Load
We have been getting hit hard with double brokering but, with the help of loading and receiving warehouses, we have been able to stop it. Thought we had all strategic processes in place until last week. Before Carrier A was loaded, we confirmed MC/DOT on the truck matched up. Sometime after pickup, our cargo was offloaded and loaded on to Carrier B who in turn delivered our freight. Although Carrier A's factoring company sent us an invoice, they advised we legally do not have to pay them as dispatch never submitted the load to them. Carrier A expressed frustration that I reached out to their factoring company. To find out, he had no intention of submitting this load to them and only did so after the Factoring Co called to find out what was going on. Carrier A & Carrier B have separate DOT/MC #'s, addresses, etc. Although separate, Carrier A is trying to justify his actions in passing on our load saying both carriers are owned by the same person. I did obtain the carrier packet from Carrier B and sure enough the W9 is signed by the same person who signed Carrier B's W9. If owner in fact owns both entities, this still does not provide a loophole to double broker and do not want to get caught in games when it comes to payment as both physically had a part in the load. Carrier B has yet to reach out requesting payment. Has anyone run into this type of scenario and if so, how did you handle resolution?

Reach out to carrier B and request any documentation they have in regards to rate confirmation and BOL's. If anything is altered BOL wise its more fraud, be sure they weren't promised some ridiculous rate to haul the freight and explain to them the issues at hand in regards to insurance, contracts, and payment liabilities. Its always important to try and do right by the carrier who actually handled the load as long as they are not trying to extort you and understand that the original rate agreed upon is what will be paid no exceptions. Yes technically you are completely off the hook for payment, however there's a difference between what is legal and what is ethical in this situation.
