One of my friends is a dahlia farmer and she gave me some tubers last year for my birthday. All parts of the dahlia are edible. My grandchildren ate plenty of petals and reported on the flavors- their favorite was the red ones they said tasted a bit like carrots. I agree with them- but a more stringent flavor to me. Anyway, I hope they make a comeback this year. I’ve got them all covered up and tucked in for winter. We forage for most edible things locally but it was nice to grow something that was not typical for us.

We have a space we garden. Last year started well but then we had a hail storm which decimated everything. We just hoped for the best but nothing came back. We are in 6b and it was July- we already don’t have a long growing season. Also our good soil washed away with hurricane Helene (I’m In WNC and we were hit hard) so I was taking a chance on the garden last year. We’ve done some work getting it back but who knows how this year will be? My husband got a carport and he’s thinking of just moving but e skeleton to the garden spit a making it a greenhouse this year. Right now we’ve got snow and below 0°f and wind so we are just waiting until winter is over to do much of anything.

@Melanie Weird I took it all in stride. I can’t control the weather so why worry about it? Some of my neighbors replanted but none of them had anything to show for it. Even my own brother who’s about 4 hours away down the mountain said his garden didn’t do anything really either. He got figs and he hunted a bunch and that was his food for the winter. Sent me some frozen figs and deer hides. I didn’t have anything to send him.
