What's everyone favourite chord?
If you could only pick one to play for the rest of your life...which would it be? Mine would be an Emaj7 chord, root A string!
How to pick up the guitar and just play
The video below shows my full answer. But if you want the short steps: 1. Learn lots of songs. 2. Learn to move around the guitar neck using stacks, rectangles, the pentatonic scale, etc. 3. Take your favorite licks from songs and make them your own. Use the fretboard shapes to help you. Remember: Don’t be too hard on yourself. Your new ideas won’t always sound great, and that’s okay. What matters is to travel at the speed of inspiration.

Fantastic tips πŸ™πŸ» especially 3, which is very underrated. Playing licks and making it your own will instantly give you way more ways to express yourself on guitar. Lots of my improv comes from simply taking riffs I already know and say extending a certain phrase. Another tip I find helps a lot is to learn your basic progressions, such as 2-5-1, and then different ways to play each chord. For example, if in C major, then the 2 (D minor), 5 (G major dominant) and the 1 ( Cmajor) - all three chords - can be played in over 4 or 5 ways. Doing this gives you a huge permutation of ways and ideas to simply do 2-5-1 πŸ™πŸ»

@Nikola Gugoski I've played guitar for 10 years but surprisingly still haven't tried this yet! I'll have to make a start πŸ˜…
Pentatonic Exercise
Started in position 1, and played string by string to positions 2 and 3 then back down to position 5. I feel like I’m starting to get better at visualizing the whole pentatonic β€œsupershape” at least piece by piece, so doing this has been good

Great exercise! I feel there are almost unlimited ways to play and connect those pentatonic shapes. I should definitely be learning more myself πŸ˜…

@Christian Lie That's wild. Guitar is so flexible in many ways. Definitely show us here if you get the chance 😎
What are you listening to these days?
I always listen to music when i make breakfast 🍞πŸ₯£ And recently, this George Benson song has been on repeat in my kitchen. It's such a relaxing song that's easy to hum or whistle to 😚 Any songs that have been on repeat for you recently?

@Christian Lie Honestly he doesn't mind Meshuggah 🀣 And that's cool. Love Periphery and AAL as well. Definitely Meshuggah inspired. At work I blast Meshuggah and Periphery through the speakers 🀣

@Christian Lie Great question! I keep it 'standard' at 10-46. I think it strikes a good balance between not being too thick to have to strum through, but not too light that they break. I've tried heavier gauges but personally just prefer the feel of 10-46. How about yourself, what do you use? πŸ™πŸ»

@Christian Lie Ah nice, that's awesome! Ernie's are great. I'll have to give 9s another shot too.
