Lizzies first game under the lights
So Lizzie debuted her new gloves in a 3-0 win for Sudbury u14 girls in the JPL. (She usually wears pink). Not only was it her first night game, but it was her 1st competitive clean sheet at this level of football.
Lizzies first game under the lights
Pushing on corners.
Hi all, During yesterday's game, my daughter's team conceded twice during corners. On both occasions the striker was deliberately pushing backwards into her and hampering her getting to the ball. The referee did not penalise this, and the opposition coaches were screaming at her to 'get into the gk more!'. We put a defender in front of my daughter to try to stop this, but that just resulted in an additional player being pushed and shoved towards her, and even more bodies to get around. Our defender even got warned for pushing the striker away 🙄. What I'm wondering is, do you guys have any tips for dealing with this situation? How do you highlight to the ref that you are being impeded without making it obvious to the opposition that they are getting to you? My daughter was obviously upset after the game, but determined to improve on this aspect. I'm just looking for ways to help her. Thanks in advance.

@Riley Reynolds unfortunately, the referee yesterday didn't seem to even notice it. The trouble with Lizzie (my daughter) is that she won't make it obvious that she is being impeded. It's not like she can just go down easily to try to claim the foul. I think it definitely needs enforcing more by the refs. As I said, the only person who got warned at all was the defender. And she was trying to protect Lizzie. It's blatant cheating by the opposition that seems to go unpunished.

@Xavier Stark thanks. I think her coaches are going to do some specific corner work this week. I still think the biggest issue is the refs not dealing with it appropriately. We shouldn't need a player to physically hold them away from the gk, which in itself can be called as a foul. But what else can we do if the ref isn't reffing it properly?
Over arm throws
How many of you use the overarm throw and think it has benefit? I have a brilliant overarm throw and love to use it when I get the need, I have been taught it by goalkeeper coaches and yet one of my coaches hates me using it and tells me off afterwards!

My daughter's JPL team actively encourage it as an option to quickly release an open player. It tends to be a ball that they can turn onto quickly. Lizzie has quite an impressive and accurate throw, so she will either put it to feet (if the player is boxed in), or over their shoulder so they can turn and run onto it. Our wing backs seem to get away from their player and are always moving at pace when they receive the ball this way.
