Do you feel like you have to earn rest?
This is a concept that I’m curious to hear your experience of! Some say rest is earned, some say it’s a given, but where do you land? I welcome you to share your experiences in the comments

@Ann-Kathrin Klym Oh wow, in what ways does it show up!?

Well said, @Iyesha Razak, especially the part about guilt. If we struggle with responsibility as identity, for example, we never feel like anything we do is enough, so rest feels like laziness instead of recovery. Only we can give ourselves permission to rest without guilt, and it starts with how we see ourselves. Thank you so much.

Workshop Recap: I'm fine... but I'm carrying too much
You’re still functioning. Still delivering. Still being relied on. So why does everything feel heavier than it should? This session is for people who wouldn’t describe themselves as “burnt out” — but know they’re carrying more than is sustainable. We explore: • the difference between stress and load • why high performers don’t notice overload until late • what it means to be capable beyond capacity You’ll leave with language for something you’ve never named but have been living inside.

@Ebony Omolara, I know some of this came up in our session today, but thank you so much for your vulnerability. The first step is accepting where you are, and I'm glad you exercised your permission to stay in bed when you needed to! I hope today's nap feels just as full of grace!

I'm so glad to hear that @Jane Elliott! You might find yesterday's workshop on "responsibility as identity" just as valuable. A little more to practice, but the upside could be transformational!
Restoring Margin.
I want to say something. As my mum used to say, "Who's there to help the helper?" Most of you here are high-capacity helpers. You think deeply. You care about doing things well. You carry a lot — professionally and personally. And because you’re competent, you rarely get checked on. Properly. People assume you’re fine. Sometimes, even YOU assume you’re fine. But there’s a difference between: - Coping and thriving - Delivering and feeling well - Being capable and being regulated If your sleep has been irregular… If your mind feels busy even when the room is quiet… If your patience feels shorter than it used to… If you’ve normalised operating slightly tired… If you're triggered by things that don't usually bother you... Or vice versa. In our "Responsibility as identity" workshop last night, I shared the analogy of the backpack. Sometimes, it's not just how much you're carrying, it's how you're carrying it, if what's in the bag is even yours to carry. Carrying without structured recovery eventually becomes strain. This community exists because I don’t believe highly driven, deeply responsible helpers should have to crash to recalibrate. You don’t need to wait for something dramatic. You don’t need to be “burnt out enough.” You don’t need permission to take your wellbeing seriously. If you’re feeling stretched at the moment, this is your reminder: You are allowed to strengthen the system beneath your success. You are allowed to want sustainability. You are allowed to build a version of ambition that doesn’t cost your nervous system its balance. And if you’re considering joining ASCEND before it's midnight registration deadline on Friday 27th February, know this — It’s not about fixing you. It’s about restoring margin. Clarity. Capacity. Thank you for being part of this community. For engaging honestly in the comments and DMs. For being willing to look beneath the surface. That’s leadership too.

Workshop Recap: Responsibility as Identity
At some point, responsibility stops being a role — and becomes who you are. This workshop is for leaders who are: • the reliable one • the steady one • the one others lean on And quietly tired of always being necessary. We look at: • how responsibility attaches to identity • why delegation doesn’t reduce emotional load • what happens when your nervous system never gets to stand down This session is about understanding the cost of always being the one who holds things together.
