We Have Chicks!
One of my girls just hatched 3 cute little chicks! Keeping chickens is fairly easy and really fun. We love fresh eggs and I sell them as well. They're a great addition to your homestead or even a residential backyard if allowed. Does anyone else here have chickens?

@Paula Boggan I started with 25 and then chicken math happened. lol There was a real demand for eggs in my area and it just snowballed. I made very good money doing it and free ranged the whole flock. I used a deep litter method in a large chicken house for them so chicken chores were fairly easy except about twice a year when i would dig out the litter and start fresh.

@Carmen Debbo Peak I've raised muscovies for years. They ate the same feed as my chickens but I also supplemented them with black sunflower seeds because ducks need niacin. I would throw them a handful every day. The chickens also loved them. Muscovies also need to wash their food down with a lot of water. In fact they need to be able to dunk their whole head. They are friendly, give huge delicious rich eggs and we actually butchered the males. Muscovy meat is a dark meat and tastes like roast beef. They lived with our chickens but roosted on the ground in deep straw in my chicken house. We have a small creek behind the chicken house for fresh water that is only about 6 inches deep and they loved when I actually threw handfuls of their food right into the creek. I also provided a kiddie pool for them and used the water to water my garden.
The Waiting Is The Hardest Part
My perennials have come in nicely already, like the bee balm and thyme pictured, but right now is when I wait. Wait for the seeds to germinate, wait for that last frost date to pass, and wait for all the tiny plants I've potted up to grow, grow, grow! What are you patiently or not so patiently waiting for in your gardening journey?

We are in this weird time where the temperatures are right for cold weather crops but everything is so wet that if things go in too early, the seed quickly rots. So it's this very delicate balance of watching the weather for the next 2-3 weeks and then carrots, peas, beets, chard, broccoli, cauliflower and brussel sprout seeds are going in!

So i planted these rose cuttings 20 days ago ,and a friend guided me to make a green house for them but i tried it with only one of them, and only that one lasted till now, other ones died.the weather here is still cool ,my question is when should i remove the green house without risking the rose to die?The roses are from flower shop not from garden.😊

Rose cuttings is something I'm so interested in! I just love Roses and am a total beginner with them. I'm planning on planting a ton of them on my farm this year. I'd love to hear about your favorites!

@Media Kurdi I love bougainvillea! I'm so tackling more roses this year!
Pepper Garland
I dried some peppers from my fall garden in my laundry room. They're great for adding to soup or chili. I will grind some of them as well for seasoning. Do any of you preserve your fruits, vegetables, or herbs that you grow?

I dried a while bunch of mint and use it for tea and this year I will be focusing on drying oregano. I have so much and never get around to drying it! It's one of the herbs I use the most so I'm going to do it this year and share some of it with the bees! 😊 They love it when they flower.

@Paula Boggan it's one of my favorite things is to just sit quietly amongst the plants and pretty soon you can see so many bees. Last year the bumblebees were so prolific!
Run A Muck Hobby Farm
Hello gardening friends! I own Run A Muck Hobby Farm on North Vancouver Island BC Canada. This platform looks amazing. Even after many years of gardening I still have so much to learn. This year I'm focusing on adding lots of flowers to my garden to help bring pollinators and just for beauty. I've started Cosmos, Zinnias, Nasturtiums and sunflowers as well as tomatoes, kohlrabi, peppers, basil and broccoli. Gardening is like meditation for me. I look forward to connecting with you all 😊
