Fitness Journey So Far
Gents, I thought I would share an honest snapshot of where I am at. On the left are my measurements from September last year. On the right are my numbers from today. In four months I have dropped just over 11 kilograms and brought several of the worst health markers back in the right direction. That is real progress. But if I am being blunt, it is not yet the standard I expect of myself. I have spent a lifetime in uniform knowing that momentum wins battles and complacency loses them. This next phase is about sharpening the blade, not admiring the grindstone. My intent is simple. I am going hard for the next 30 days, locking in discipline around training, nutrition and recovery, then posting the results back here to keep myself accountable. As General George S. Patton once said, “Accept the challenges so that you can feel the exhilaration of victory.” Time to earn it.

Rate Your Circle!
🚨 Do a Hard Audit on Your Circle Not everyone around you wants you to win. Some people are comfortable as long as you don’t outgrow them. If someone in your life: - Mocks your goals - Makes growth feel “cringe” or unnecessary - Pulls you back into bad habits - Drains your energy - Gets weird when you level up They’re not neutral. They’re a liability. Watch the subtle stuff: - “Relax bro” when you’re disciplined - Jokes that chip away at you - Guilt when you choose training, work, or rest - Constant drama, no accountability That’s not friendship — that’s friction. Ask yourself: - Who makes me sharper? - Who makes me weaker? - Who do I become after being around them? - If nothing changed for 5 years, where would I end up? The truth: Outgrowing people isn’t betrayal. Letting people hold you back is self-sabotage. Distance isn’t rude. It's self-respect. Bottom line: Your circle either builds you or breaks you. Choose accordingly.

Very true mate, given we are males it very easy to slip into the 'lad mentality' and be all about the bois; even though that environment can be toxic. As fun as it made be at the time, the long term consequences significantly outweigh the short term dopamine hit. It can be difficult however to step away from that as the 'lads' will see it as disengagement or a lack of loyalty on your behalf. It is however important to be loyal to yourself first and surround yourself with people that ultimately want the best for you.... something I am currently working on.

Alex Vanstan (Vano), age 38. Great initiative Fil, great to see it has kicked off and I am keen to get involved. One area I want to improve: Discipline, mindset and consistency, especially around training, nutrition and daily structure. What’s held me back: Relying on day to day motivation instead of a standard and routine. Letting a busy workload, social engagements and time with girlfriend become an excuse instead of planning around it. I also have multiple orthopaedic injuries as a result of my military service in Afghanistan. Really looking forward to interacting in this community and really appreciate your relentless efforts to get the most out of us Fil!
