…My Grandson took a tasty morsel on the trip…his first…from the shot to the gutting, dragging, hanging and butchering and in the freezer…he did it all under the supervision of his Uncle, and me offering expert commentary while sipping a cold Modelo…!
Hot melt
What is the hot melt that you use for inserts in carbon arrows . I have tried different ones with minimal success over time. The latest one is gorilla hot melt sticks from the hardware store. I have ordered some from iron will and am going to try it also.

Treestand practice for bear hunt
A good friend has invited me to hunt his property for black bear in Northwestern Ontario. He has already taken a large boar in the spring but seems to have an over abundance of them as he tries to develop his property for whitetail. Super excited to help him out. I’ll be hunting from a treestand which isn’t new to me however last year I hunted exclusively out of a ground blind. I have a stand set in the backyard so I can practice out of which is good. I needed it. Getting better as the shooting went. One broadhead followed by a field point. The arrows are the 70-75 I’ve just made topped with the Journeyman broadheads. Just need to pick a day. Super excited.

The Love of Archery
I was late into hunting and archery at 38. Always loved archery something about the closeness and challenge of more like the Indians riding and hunting. I used to watch my dad shoot old compound with bare fingers and no sights. Then when started had a compound and enjoy shooting but was missing something got good and all the gadgets. Then got a recurve and the simplicity but the challenge of shooting hitting the same spot with single string no sights was where found what was missing. Traditional has become school and self competition. As this group has been so great with knowledge and amazing shooters being positive and upbeat and fun. I want to thank @Grant Richardson for all the great knowledge and @Jenn Richardson putting this great community together. Remember always have fun and enjoy every-time you shoot build arrows, hunt. Look forward to hearing everyone’s stories from there journey. Thanks for all the inspiration.

…my Grampa shot recurve…and as a kid (way back when ), Id listen to his tall tales of hunts and equipment of a long ago burgeoning sport…he taught me to round squares and make good shafts and how to strip quills and fletch arrows…watched him one time shooting in the basement and his arrow struck a pole and rebound and strike him in the belly…he walked up the basement stairs with that arrow stuck in him and holler to my Dad that there was a problem…Grandma freaked…long story short, he was takin in and treated for a non life threatening wound…to this day, so vivid in my mind…but it didnt scare me away, and it didnt scare him off either…we chatted and conversed and shared all through the years, and he recounted all that he had shared with with me to my young Son when he came of an age of understanding…sooooooo perfect it was, and still is despite losing him some years ago….Im sure Grampa is with us each and every step into the great outdoors…he had told us thru many clean kills and many shared meals…
Longbow straight or canted
Just curious.. Now this could be a mental thing, but why does my arrow flight push up and left when I'm holding my bow straight up and when I have a slight cant my arrow flight is straight and grouping is a lot tighter? Attached is a pic of my grouping at 16 yards.

…its a clock…up and left when straight up and down….bullseye when canted 2 to 7…pick your poison and tune and shoot to that…fletch contact…nock orientation…broadhead orientation…the arrow ALWAYS suffer paradox regardless of the bow cant…..string twist from the fingers contact…..choose the one you cant lose with…!

The hunt was ingrained on me as a youngster by my Grandfather…to this day, his inspiration for the traditional way keeps me near and dear to it…
