First turkey sit of the season 🦃
No turkeys were harmed and no dads fell asleep and needed a stick poke to wake them.. 😴 We will be back! Once we locate where the heck the birds have gone?!! Turkeys will relocate to areas where they aren’t pressured by predators- our go to spot has again become a transient spot- back at locating the birds again! A lot of folks tend to hunt fields since that’s where they see the birds commonly. I’ve personally taken 80 % of my birds in the last 30 years inside the bush lots themselves not fields. I’m a big fan of hunting inside the bush edge itself or what I call handrails which are points of cover like an old broken fence line or trail road I don’t mind the edge of field sits as well, but they can also kind of pin you down. Our best spot is become a transition zone once again, so we’re off to find where the birds are at later this week. We had one Jake respond to us but very, very far away no Tom’s. Good luck to everybody out there chasing Tom with their bows!

Still my bucket list hunt….BIG sigh….one day.
Venison Crack Burgers
Our favorite venison burger recipe. 1 pound ground venison 3 tablespoons sour cream 2 tablespoons ranch dressing dry mix 3 bacon strips cooked and crumbled 1 cup cheddar cheese. Mix it up and make your patties and grill them up. We make 3-4 pounds at a times and vacuum seal packages up for future meals.

Sound delicious. I’ll have to try it.
I think she’s hooked
Our winter league wrap up was this evening. We presented certificates for the top three in the divisions we had. My wife, Karen and I showed up early to finish setting up for the fun evening. After we got the 3D targets out, Karen says “get me one of those traditional bows”. I grab a 20# recurve for her and a few arrows. Well the video and photos tell the story. She asked if I had a bow for her…..of course I do 🤷🏻‍♂️😉🏹. Will see where this goes.

@Ken Borst haha. Think so? She shoots compound been trying to get her to try the recurve. Hopefully the ground work has been laid haha.
The fleet
With our winter league wrapping up and me done with my scoring it was time to blow the dust off the rest of the fleet. Love them all. Deciding which will be the hunting bow this season.

@Kelsey Holts 100%. Worked for a bit at Heart Lake First Nation (near Lac La Biche) as well. So I know the cold lake area too.
I Finally Finished them—First Set of Custom Woodies
Just finished up a fresh set of Douglas fir arrows I built myself and wanted to share them with you. These were a full hands-on project for me—custom dyed feathers, “poor man” splices, and I even mixed the wine red paint myself (came out a shade darker than I had in mind, but I don’t hate it. The paint lines definitely need work, I could have done one more layer of white, and the overall design measurement are far from perfect, but that’s part of the process and learning curve. Because I love math and knowing my equipment, here are my Specs: • Total Arrow Weight: 506-512 grains • Arrow Length: 26 inches • Grains per Pound (gr/lb): 12.5 • FOC: 15.4 % I built these as my 3D set. I’m excited to get them out, shoot them hard, and see how they hold up. That’ll tell me a lot before I dive into building my actual hunting arrows—which will be a whole lot less flashy 🤣 Always open to feedback from you guys— Can’t wait to put these through the wringer.
