Congrats
A piece of Canadian Bowyer history is now mine.
Visiting with family friends some time ago I was treated to seeing the husband, Bill’s traditional bow and wood arrows he used to hunt with. I knew he hunted with a compound so it was surprising to see the traditional gear. One bow that stuck out for me was the Jack Kempf “Kwyk Styk” recurve, 58”, 51#@28” that was custom made for him in 1998. I did not know Mr. Kempf personally, but have come to know him through reading and of course the internet about his bows and the person he was. Of course being a Canadian bowyer, I had hoped to one day shoot one of his bows. Well, I get more than an opportunity to shoot it as I am the proud owner of it. He made me an offer I could not turn down. I’m excited to own a piece history. Jack Kempf passed away in 2024 at the age of 92. He was one of the founding members of the Alberta Traditional Bowhunters Association and his bows can be found around the world. I’m excited to loose an arrow with this bow.

@Kris Kok I’ve heard that the kwyk styk is a sought after model of Jacks. And a shooter. I’m opening the club tonight so it may accompany me with some cedar arrows and see how it goes.

I’m sure we made stick bows with string as kids. But what I remember most is shooting dad’s Les Dunsden long bow. He had it as a kid. I now have it and still shoot it for fun on occasion. It’s from the 50’s.
