Hit a nice buck. Tracked for close to 2 miles then lost blood. Going to have drone come look in the AM. Never not recovered a deer. Weighing heavy on me.

I’ve gotten few questions about this- ⬇️ Our good are @Gary Harris brought up Ribtek Broadheads last week on the fireside chat. Here’s one sooo maybe @Gary Harris will show one mounted on a “timber” arrow! 😉 🏹

@Kris Kok I guess I’ve never really paid to much attention, but they pass through logs and goats easy enough. So I’ve never really worried about the extra drag the ribs would make. But I’ll keep digging for some more history on them.

@Grant Richardson that photo of the 5 together are all wall hangers behind the bar these days. They all took game on that trip to western Qld I spoke about with 2 guys who had built my bows.

Osage long bow
Have started the journey to be a bowyer. Am hand making an Osage long bow from a stave. My 87 year old buddy is teaching me how to do it. I’m ready to put a string on it and start tillering. It’s 64” long. I’ve been a deer hunter for 40 years.

Sounds like a great journey to be on John. I’d love to see some photos of your build when you are ready.
Frustrating bow hunt
Does anyone else get super frustrated with trad bow hunting. I was out all day today, stalking a pair of does and a nice big buck but could not get within shooting distance. So many 50-60 yard broadside opportunities, but I am not accurate after about 30-40 yards. Just really makes me hate this trad bow stuff. Anyone else?

G'day @Brian Madigan. Trad hunting is a real journey. Honestly, I’ve watched way more animals wander off than I’ve ever drawn an arrow on. For me, it’s never just about the shot—it’s everything that happens along the way. The laughs, the sneaking around, the quiet moments while you’re out walking and watching. It’s about trying to get close, trying to outsmart an animal’s senses, and just enjoying being out there. Most of the time I’ve got my camera in one hand, snapping photos from a distance, and I’m perfectly happy doing that. But when the camera goes away and I’m actually focused on the hunt… I’m all in. I’ve belly-crawled through who-knows-how-many meters of prickles and thorns trying to get close—only for something to go sideways at the last second and the animal bolts anyway. Grant calls it “hunting the hard way,” and yeah, it definitely is. But to me, it’s just hunting. I love every form of archery, and I’ve got a ton of respect for anyone who puts in the time and effort to send an arrow downrange, no matter what they shoot. But stick with it, it makes for great memories & when it comes together, it makes it all worth the time & effort.

Been flinging arrows for about 26 years here in Australia. Around 20 of those years have been exclusively with my trusted longbow.
