OOOOOOOF. THIS WAS FUN. HELLO ← 🚪
❓If your community was a ROOM, like an actual physical room you could walk into, plonk yourself down in, maybe grab a drink and stay a while… what would it look like? And even more than that, what would it FEEL like? Because when we look at an image, we don’t just see it do we. We feel it. We imagine ourselves in it. We know pretty quickly whether it’s a “ohhh yesssss, I like it here” vibe or a “hmm, not sure this is my place” one. So I had a little play (EEEK) and I asked ChatGPT to create an image of THE BACKROOM ← 🚪 I didn’t give it some fancy polished af prompt, I just rambled at it in my usual way, like I’d voice-note it out. TOTES recommend doing it that way btw. For THE BACKROOM ← 🚪 I said things like… it’s homely, safe, cozy, a little bit messy (OBVS), there are DOGS in the room, it’s a place where we chat, hang out, say real shit, and feel comfy enough to fully be ourselves. It’s a little bit dark, a little bit mysterious, not for everybody, full of messy ideas and half-finished thoughts, very come-as-you-are energy. And yes, I repeated the dogs part because priorities 🐶 And honestly… when the image came back I was like WOOP there it is… That’s it. That’s the vibe. That’s the FEEL. So now… LFG. I totes invite you to do this too. Not my way pfffttt, YOUR way. Go into ChatGPT and in your own words just say something like, “I want you to create an image that encapsulates the essence of my community called XYZ” based on alloy know about it and then just brain-dump the vibe. Ramble. Be messy. Say what you’d say if you were explaining it to a mate…. Then drop your image below in here and tell us… does this actually capture what you WANT people to feel when they step into your community? Is this the energy you think you’re putting out right now? Is this the room you’d wanna walk into? And here’s the extra juicy bit (HELLO INSIGHT)… take that same image into your own community and ask them, “I made this… does this feel like how it feels to be here?” Because I reckon that convo alone could be pretty eye-opening for all of us 👀

💥 Skool Group Owners: GROW + Connect with your right members.
When you first open your community, it can feel nerve wracking. Like you're throwing a party, but you're unsure if anyone will show up! ➡️ THIS WEEK, you can join the Skool Connection Summit (for free!!) to help you make sure friends do show up to your Skool! >> https://skool.com/connection ✅ CREATE ABOUT PAGES THAT CONNECT! This is THE marketing opportunity you have and your big chance to connect with your right members! @Elise Hodge analyzed heaps of about pages from Skool Games winners and created a formula of sorts that makes it clear what's most important to check off to have a "winning" about page that truly connects with your right people! ✅ NETWORKING TO CONNECT! My friend @Justin Yip is widely known in Skool circles thanks to his networking skills. He's just a genuinely great guy and the kind of person you LOVE to network with because he listens and draws from sooo much knowledge on this and that. So I was more than thrilled when I joined a group networking call with @Ben Sherry (now a new friend!! such a nice guy too). They co-host their group networking calls, and it's FANTASTIC. So in their call, they walk you through EXACTLY how to do it. We need to network because it's relationships that bring our right people to us most effectively. You will LOVE this workshop! ✅ MESSAGING THAT CONNECTS is with @Mimi Ramsey, and if you've seen literally ANY of her posts anywhere, you know that her messaging is so very Mimi. It connects with her RIGHT people. Mimi will dig into how to make sure YOUR messaging connects with YOUR people! This will be fun! Because... Mimi! ✅ USE THE POWER OF MINDSET FOR GROWTH & CONNECTION. This is going to be sooo good!! It's with @Lydia Wilmsen. Lydia's already a top 1% community builder with a group that's FLYING forward in engagement, growth, and income. Far before Skool was even a twinkle in Sam Oven's eye, Lydia was helping clients with the mindset work that gets the results. THIS lovely chat is not one to miss, especially if you feel like there are little gremlins in your head sometimes as you're growing. (Do you know what I mean by that?! 💖🫶😅)

A QUESTION I THINK EVERY COMMUNITY OWNER NEEDS TO ASK (it can totes change a lot)
I’ve been thinking about this heaps, and OOOOOOFFFFFFF! If I hadn’t called my community THE BACKROOM ← 🚪 I probably would’ve called it The Conversation Club This is literally where my brain went this morning while eating my breakfast burrito (but nope I am not changing it btw) One of those random thoughts that ain’t actually RANDOM at all. You know the ones. They’re usually onto something BIG! Well, I was thinking about intentions behind communities. Because we all have them, whether we’ve named them or not. Every space is leading somewhere. Even the “casual” ones. Stay with me. So The Backroom didn’t start fully formed. It evolved actually we used to be called the Unstoppables. But the newish name came basically from the FEEL of it, not some deep branding exercise I did. It’s called The Backroom because it’s the place you go to talk it out. Business stuff, yes. But also the WOOPS, the WOBBLES, the “I don’t know if this even makes sense but…” moments. It’s the space where confidence gets built quietly. Where you start to feel safe enough to actually be yourself around other humans. And honestly, that’s the bit that matters most to me BIG TIME… Because in there, you don’t have to worry that your post will be deleted. Or misunderstood. Or jumped on. Or turned into a pitch-fest. Or met with advice you didn’t ask for (HELLO, that one). It’s a space where we build the confidence muscle TOGETHER, not by being perfect, but by being real AF (aka humans being humans) And I know some people will read this and think, “huh, sounds a bit pointless.” But here’s the thing that keeps niggling at me… How many of you are sat in genuinely EPIC communities right now, amazing spaces, great people, loads of potential… like this space for example, and you’re still not posting? Not because you’ve got nout to say. But because of that tiny (or not so tiny) fear. Of judgement. Of saying the wrong thing. Of someone misunderstanding you. Of your brain going into overdrive before you’ve even typed the first sentence.
A QUESTION I THINK EVERY COMMUNITY OWNER NEEDS TO ASK (it can totes change a lot)

HE WAS A CON-ARTIST…………………………. Mimis community❤️
(This is very Backroom energy… you’ll see why) This kinda shocked me, blew my mind and everyone I shared it with felt the same… On my chit chat with a guy called Mikey , 70 years old. From the States. We ended up talking heaps. One of those rare, soul-filling convos that just flows. Smart. Humble. Grounded. I wish I’d got a picture of us, but hey I’ve got the story. (And he’s planning on staying in Bali, so maybe there’s a round two.) Anyway, among all the things we talked about life, food, Bali, travels, business, AI (he’s more clued up than most 30-year-olds), one thing really stayed with me. He told me about how his son landed an epic job recently. How? He wrote a handwritten letter yep, cursive (his words) and posted it. Envelope. Stamp. Phone number. The works. He got the job. Because it stood out. Because it was personal. Because it had… confidence. Then Mikey shared more. That every job he’d ever gotten in his career (he used to build houses) came from him walking up and saying: “I’ll build your kitchen. You only pay me when you’re happy.” Every single person paid him. Not just paid him, they recommended him. He had more work than he could handle. He made millions before the job even started. Why? Confidence… And then he said something that made me pause, like wtf He said, “I was a con artist back then.” I did a double take — like, huh? 🧐 Then he smiled and said, “You know what con artist used to mean, right? Confidence artist.” So of course, this morning I looked it up. And yep, he was right. Back in the 1800s, there was a guy called William Thompson in New York. He’d approach people and ask “Do you have the confidence to lend me your watch until tomorrow?” They’d say yes. Because he sounded so sure. So trustworthy. So certain. They called him a “confidence man.” Which became con man. Then con artist. Sure, it’s taken on a more shady meaning now. But originally? It wasn’t about deception.
