@Jessica Enslin Ahh now this is VERY interesting. At just under 2 years you normally still see a much more baby mouth: - Smaller, more uniform milk teeth - Less wear - A softer, more upright look (so to speak) In your photos, these look much more like permanent incisors with visible wear which typically come in from around 2.5–4.5 years depending on development and sex - males tend to mature a few months later. So based on this without an accurate and clear look in her mouth she does not look 21 months old to me, she looks older - not under 2. Teeth can vary, but not usually that much at this age range. I’d definitely question the history and, if it matters (sale, vetting, etc.), have a vet or equine dentist assess in person if not all ready. You’re right to double-check this and sorry to put more doubt in your mind, the Hollywood star is a mystery still 🥰🫶🐴✨

🐎 Week 16 - 2026
Weekly Wins, a day late from Africa 😅🌍🐴 I forgot yesterday 🙈 But in my defence, here in Africa time feels a little different. So let’s do it now 👇 What’s been your win or wins this week? What’s one thing you’re starting to get good and what’s one thing you’re going to begin next? Let’s hear it - wins and next steps. I’ll be reading from Namibia with a big smile on my face! 😃🐴✨🫶

@Kimberly Nogueira Ahh I love this 😄❤️ I actually see signs of connection here and a really nice one. Over time, he’ll learn that even when you turn away for a moment, you’re not “gone” - you’re still there. Right now he’s just checking in, but that will settle as his confidence in the different forms of connection grow👌 Onwards from good to great 🫶🐴✨

@Tessa Wils Nice awareness from you to notice the elevation and bring things back down 🙌 Just something to think about - she sees that truck regularly so this is a great opportunity over time to help her stay more with you rather than stepping away from it. You did well to regroup - now we just build towards her being able to stay because for example you are more grounded through it 🤩🫶🐴✨
Sunday cuddles and monday walks
Sunday cuddles and cleaning up. Today again full on brushmode tied up on the wall. Even picking up his feet is getting better today. Because of the lovely whether we went for a small walk thru the trail garden. And he is so brave and handsome❤️. Sorry for the spam🫣🤭🫶🏽

Question about motivation and learning
Hi everyone, I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences around motivation in horses during training. Over time, I’ve noticed a consistent difference in my horse’s attitude depending on whether I include positive reinforcement (food rewards) in a session or not. I alternate between sessions with rewards and sessions without them, so it’s not something I use all the time. When I work with food rewards, I see noticeably more willingness from my horse to explore, offer responses, and actively try to figure out what I’m asking. The learning feels more proactive, almost like the horse is engaged in solving a puzzle rather than just responding. On the other hand, when I train using only pressure–release (pressure applied, in the lighest possible way, and release when the correct response happens), I sometimes feel that the motivation drops. The horse does respond, but it feels more mechanical and less enthusiastic. A clear example for me is backing up on the halter: - With pressure–release alone, the horse might shift weight back or take a single step, but often seems less engaged. - Using rewards, I’ve been able to build this up to 4–5 relaxed, intentional steps, with much more focus and curiosity from the horse. I want to emphasize that I’m intentionally using low‑value rewards (meadow hay pellets, while my horse has access to forrage ad libitum), and I’m not seeing “cookie monster” behavior, but I am seeing more interest and participation. So my question is: - Do you see this difference in motivation as well? - How do you interpret it in terms of learning theory and emotional state? - How do you personally balance pressure, release, and reinforcement to keep horses motivated without over‑reliance on rewards? Really interested in hearing different perspectives 🙏

@Magalí Dsp Hey 😊 This is a really good question and it is a tricky one. You’ll get there with it in the end, just keep exploring like you are. Thank you @Cheg Darlington for sharing the post details - really helpful to open up this conversation 👌 What you’re noticing makes sense. Food can encourage more searching behaviour, while pressure/release can sometimes look more “mechanical” if the understanding isn’t fully there yet or the feel/timing isn’t quite refined. For me, the key is making sure the horse truly understands the language of pressure/release first, so it becomes clear and fair and not something they just comply with. Then motivation comes from clarity, not just reward. Food can absolutely be useful, but we just want to be careful it doesn’t become the main driver. The goal is a horse that stays engaged because they understand, not because they’re waiting for something. Keep playing with it, keep observing, you questions are exactely what this commmunity is about 🫶🐴✨ P.S. After a break and a couple of days of groundwork, we saddled up (no issues 😀). We had a little play on line then (after what feels like forever) I got back on 😀. We chilled by the mounting block, practiced some lateral flexions, walk, halt and back up. So happy to be back behind my favourite ears 😊
