Viral on the first upload!!
Just found a brand-new YouTuber channel that went viral on its first video about early retirement in your early 50s to regain health and passion. The creator already posted a thoughtful follow-up in their Community tab — really interesting to watch this unfold. https://youtube.com/@waynephipps-over50reset?si=4_PwlAeRVxId8BeQ

@Rozani Navas-Smith yes… when I listened to the whole thing properly I noticed how very perfectly curated it was so I think someone very experienced in these things or knows someone who is… It felt a bit too perfect for me tbh… I like more raw… raggedy edged content that I can relate too lol!

@Just Krista Funny I was in another thread and @Julie JordanScott said she also noticed the very polished feel of the video. He did well but that style doesn’t appeal to me… I like the more messy, raw videos because I can relate to these. I think the viewers being able to relate is the most important factor in these videos, but although you can relate to the title… it doesn’t always follow through. I think someone mentioned in this case that the fact that he owns a home outright and had a load of collectable things to sell changes the story a bit. Kind of like when you see a thumbnail saying (random example!) ā€œI used ***** for 3 months and my wrinkles are gone! ā€œ Then you discover that the person in 19 and never been out in the sun lol!!!! But that doesn’t detract from his success here even if a lot gave up half way it counts. But I guess as I think Vicky said, til be the follow through that tells. It’s all fascinating stuff… I could easily just study it all for fun!
A/B Testing option for Titles & Thumbnails?
Today for the first time YouTube offered me the option of A/B testing. I chose to test titles but not thumbnails. Next time I may make different thumbnails to test. Have any of you tried this option? What feedback did you get?

@Julie JordanScott absolutely Julie… I just wrote about this very thing in Andrea’s post… that’s what struck me the most the perfectly curated presentation… gotta say it may be successful and good on him, but I like flaws and bumps and scratches! Give me the analogue version anyday lol!

Lol I’ll read the subtitles in my laptop… I can’t listen to that cringey AI voiceover and it’s out of sync!
What's the longest you've ever gone not posting any videos?
I'm hitting 4 weeks now, with a new long form video coming out this weekend. This will be the longest time for me I think and while it's not ideal, I am OK with it. I've been wrestling with a couple of script outline-y thingy's for this and the next video and been tempted to just roll with an outline I had a couple weeks ago but then changed my mind. I've not yet filmed a video I wasn't 100% onboard with so why start now? And of course been enjoying doing group lives so that always fills my cup. What's your longest time without posting any videos and why? PS. Pinched this wall art idea from seeing this video from Peter McKinnon when he was visiting the Epidemic Sound studios! I made it in Canva - let me know if you want a copy and I'll drop it in here.

@Vicki D is the crud covid? I am sure it had a long lasting effect on my immune system. So many things have changed. I did also experience a huge and chronic burnout around the same time as my second bout of Covid, but I have been ill on and off ever since with colds, sore throat, fatigue etc. Also developed hay fever type allergies which I have never had like this before... I've had the sneezing and watery eyes etc ,mildly and I eat the local pine tree tips and local honey to help as I am intolerant of all anti histamines. But recently the pollens are really affecting my breathing and this is new to me. I had to have the vaccine for work, and I am never sure if it was the disease of the vaccine that caused my immunity to change.

@Vicki D I had my first bout at the same time as the vaccine so was never sure which one screwed up my immune system. Before that I rarely got sick. The second bout was 18 months later…but as I pretty much broke down/burnt out at the same time so can’t recall much! I think the extent of the long term effects of Covid are still unknown.
Monetized a Second Channel
This is crazy and I need to tell someone. I have another channel where I do tutorials and it’s been monetized for a couple of years now. But I also have another channel that just got monetized and it’s exploding. I was about to shut it down and then less than a month ago a video went viral and everything changed. I’m now at 25,000 watch hours and over 6k subs. It was sitting idle at 600+ subs when I was thinking of shutting it down. Then I did a video in a park sitting at a picnic table and it went nuts. That video has over 87k views now and I got monetized in less than a week after publishing it. The channel isn’t for everyone so don’t feel like you have to check it out and please don’t subscribe if it’s not your cup of tea. I’ll still like you. It’s something I started several years ago to document my journey out of religion. Not away from my faith but away from religious obligation. The channel name is The UnSunday Show (@unsundayshow). I have an audio podcast by the same name. Check it out if that interests you. I’ll always be Mike’s Retirement Corner in here. :)

My goodness Mike! How long ago did you start the channel? It is crazy how things happen, I wonder if in fact YouTube has made changes that has gotten some of these stuck Chanels seen suddenly? I have no idea but wow! Congrats! I will check out your channel as I am very interested in faith vs religion in respectful way, It is difficult and contentious, but I feel it is also something that needs to be talked about more.
