Anchor! How long do you hold?!
As long or short as you need!! For myself it really is hunting shot dependant. For birds like pheasant I will shoot with a very short exposure- leave a comment below! Happy weekend to everyone! -Grant

Something that I recently added to my shooting routine is to utilize a mantra. Focus, Pull, pull, pull, pop. The pop is when the arrow hits the target. Lol. These words gets me not worry about the aiming but continue to just pull until I'm at my anchor point. You could also say it helps me to hit my anchor more consistently. Rather than just shooting my arrows with no thought this helps me concentrate and focus on every shot.
Arrow weight
It's amazing how 10 grains can effect arrow flight. I was shooting an Easton Carbon Legacy 400 spine with 325 up front and hitting spot on. Same setup with a black eagle vintage and was consistently hitting to the left of the target. This was frustrating but when I weighed the arrows Easton 618 gn vs Black Eagle 608 gn. Crazy. πŸ˜‚
Focus
This evening I was training my mind to focus on a spot. So decided to get a golf tee nand put it in my target. Kept it between 10 and 15 yards. Most of my shots were within a 1.5" from the tee. I found it to be pretty easy to lose concentration on a single spot. Now I know it's something I really need to work. One of my last shots I almost punched it in. I heard it nick the tee. Groupings are getting tighter. Now I just have to get that concentration stronger! Focus, Pull, Pull, Pull, Pop Need to work on my mantra πŸ˜‚

@Rocky Zeien it worked well, just not sure how far beyand 16 yards I would still be able to see the tee. πŸ˜‚ But for where I want to be when hunting, this is perfect a long with the closed eyes practice.

@Rocky ZeienI definitely feel you. The same thing happens to me. Rather than trying to fight through it, I will stop shooting to avoid picking up bad habits, especially if I can't figure it out in a few shots. Then what I will do is wake up in the morning before work and take a cold shot. Typically, things just hit right the next day. I use that cold shot while also trying to get myself picturing a deer in front of me. Now I just need a deer in front of me in real life. Public land sure is tough, but I'm figuring things out. I just need more time in the woods.
Longbow straight or canted
Just curious.. Now this could be a mental thing, but why does my arrow flight push up and left when I'm holding my bow straight up and when I have a slight cant my arrow flight is straight and grouping is a lot tighter? Attached is a pic of my grouping at 16 yards.

@Grant Richardson I just started the closing eye challenge and will do the stand, kneel, and turn around challenge as well. I'll get some videos in soon. Been enjoying the content. All my friends I hunt with shoot compound bows and they don't get it πŸ˜‚.
Back at it.
Took a couple months to return to the discipline and meditation that archery gives. Life has a way of throwing you for a loop sometimes, so I took the time to deal with the loop that was thrown my way, to get a handle on it and move forward. Not so easy after forty years to lose the one you love. However I know she’d want me to continue moving forward, just took a little time. Grant, Jenn, and all of you in the ethical group of shooters who took the time to be supportive I thank you so very much. Your kindness made all the difference in the world. So there is more to the ethical preds than meets the eye. You had much to do with getting me to fling some sticks again. As we say here in the islands, mahalo, which means thank you from the heart. You’ll be hearing more from me and my thoughts on archery and the concept of the ethical predator, John
