I’m not the biggest fan of gourmands but when I saw pie crust I was all ears. 👂 doesn’t look bad on paper..
SOTE - Kajal III by Kajal
I bought this stuff a few months ago (H of D) and I have yet to take it out for a run. It's still warm in the desert with 60 degrees at night and another day in the mid 80s tomorrow. By my reckoning those temps make this frag completely appropriate. The opening has a citrus (lemon) and grapefruit vibe and I don't think I can overstate the "zestiness" (LOVE that word) with that initial blast. I've read a few reviews comparing it to a lemon-lime soda sort of blast. I'm not sure I agree with that but those comments aren't too far off either. The grapefruit is sharp and photorealistic (smells just like a real grapefruit), which is a bit invigorating. (Yeah, I know... I'm wearing this at night to bed.) The mid has ginger, rosemary, neroli (one of my favorite scents) and lavender. It drys down to a clean citrus and the ginger provides a crisp, yet spicy warm vibe. The base include the (omnipresent) ambroxan, patchouli and musk. How can you possibly miss with that threesome in the base. This is a very well-blended frag and I understand that I can expect pretty good performance, especially given that it's a freshie. I may be way off base but I don't see anything here that would be too objectionable to anyone. Is it a crowd-pleaser? You bet... Is it blind-buy safe? Given it's a buck and a half on jomashop, I'd have to say no. The consensus at fragrantica seems to like it a bit more than me, however I still think it's a: 8.1/10.0 Have a great evening my brothers.

SOTD: Ex Nihilo - The Irreverents (Harrods Exclusive)
Saturday night I gave another recent addition its second full wearing: Ex Nihilo – The Irreverents. This is a Harrods Exclusive and joins Brompton Immortals EDP in my collection, moving my total Ex Nihilo bottles to 4 (Speed Legends and Blue Talisman are the others). I’ve been really enjoying the house of Ex Nihilo, although they are pricey and I wouldn’t suggest blind buying. The Irreverents opens with a warm, radiant burst of saffron and pink pepper that makes it feel instantly luxurious and a little mischievous. It then slides into an addictive and creamy caramel heart. The base is pure comfort with rich vanilla, tonka bean, and a salty whisper of ambergris that keeps everything grounded and elegant. On skin it’s cozy, slightly gourmand, and effortlessly unisex. It’s like a cashmere sweater dipped in salted caramel and worn to a dimly lit bar. There’s a subtle metallic edge in the background that gives it that signature Ex Nihilo polish and stops it from ever feeling too dessert-like or cloying. This is cool weather magic and excellent when the temperature drops into the low 50s°F or below. Sillage is generous, especially when you’re moving, where it blooms off the skin with each step. It’s not a room clearing beast, but it quietly commands attention, announcing your arrival, lingering like a signature as you leave, and trails just enough to make strangers wonder what smells like warm, salted caramel you can eat with a spoon, but somehow still refined, never dessert. Is it worth the Harrods Exclusive price tag plus international shipping from the UK? Objectively… probably not. Do I still catch myself inhaling my wrist like an addict both times I’ve worn it? Absolutely. It’s stupidly beautiful, and my brain has already decided the justification part is irrelevant. Dangerous territory. Proceed with caution gents!

Thanks @Thomas Chavez for hooking me up with these. Super jazzed to try them and landed just in time for my SOTE. Little chilly outside, a couple cigars, I think I may go Red Tobacco. Unless y'all think I should go with something else.

I am an amateur collector of fragrances both designer and niche. I am looking for a place to talk fragrance and find great things to try.
