1. Qualify Early with Directness One of the biggest mistakes DM setters make is spending too much time with unqualified leads. You must qualify leads early in the conversation to avoid wasting time. Don’t be afraid to ask direct questions. Example: "I know your time is valuable, [Name], so just to make sure we’re aligned—are you actively looking to improve [specific problem or goal] in your business right now?" Why it works: Cuts to the chase quickly. Saves both you and the prospect time. Ensures you’re only spending time on serious prospects. 2. Master the “Pattern Interrupt” Technique Everyone gets dozens of DMs every day, so your message needs to stand out immediately. The best way to do that is with a pattern interrupt—something unexpected or intriguing that grabs their attention. Example: "Quick question, [Name], I don’t mean to surprise you, but I just noticed something in your profile that could make you an extra $500K this quarter. Want to hear more?" Why it works: Gets their attention right away—they can’t help but read on. Makes them curious to know more. Shows instant value without overloading them with details. 3. Utilize the Power of “Social Proof” People trust others' opinions far more than they trust a sales pitch. Incorporating social proof—testimonials, reviews, case studies, etc.—in your DMs can dramatically increase trust. Example: "Hey [Name], I recently helped a business just like yours achieve a 25% increase in lead conversion. Here’s what they had to say about the process: [insert brief testimonial]. Does this sound like something you'd be interested in?" Why it works: Trust and authority are built in with social proof. Increases credibility of your offer. Helps the prospect envision success by showing real examples. To truly excel as a DM setter in both B2B and B2C sales, your goal should always be to add value at every touchpoint, build trust, and keep the conversation focused on solving the prospect’s problem. Master these strategies, and you’ll become the best in the business.
