Undivided ONE
The whole alchemical process depends on recovering this undivided One within the divided multiplicity of postcelestial life.
The primal One-Qi is not a gross material vapor, nor is it merely a philosophical abstraction. It is the undamaged potency of original wholeness, the unified life of the Dao before fragmentation.
That is why the author says it is “empty yet capable of illumination.”
Emptiness here is not inert absence; it is luminous capacity. This is precisely why many inner-alchemical texts insist that the root is both empty and numinous, still and aware, formless yet fully potent.
If one leans only toward emptiness, one falls into dead vacuity; if one leans only toward luminosity or activity, one falls into restless manifestation.
The undivided root contains both without splitting into either.
