Inspired by the instagram account I've built a bedside alarm clock last weeks. The reason: I want my phone out of the bedroom, but there's a handful of things I still need it for at night and in the morning. So I built a thing that does exactly those, and nothing else.
It's a small touchscreen next to the bed:
- Alarm through Sonos: pick the room(s), the days, the time. Wakes me with my own playlist, volume ramping up slow instead of a beep.
- Snooze that actually pauses the music, not just delays a sound.
- Morning dashboard: Weather, news headlines, bedroom air quality. The stuff I used to grab my phone for.
- Sonos player: Play/pause/skip/volume, album art, sleep timer. Put something on without unlocking anything.
Stack: ESP32-S3, custom firmware, and a small Cloudflare Worker talking to the Sonos API.
Phone's been in the other room for a week now and I haven't missed it once. That was the whole point.
