Halloween is coming...
... so I decided to try building something with some hardware bits. I bought two of these https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CM9GXJFF?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title and a PIR sensors and then started a chat with Claude about making monster eyes. It then expanded out into 3d printing the skull which I think I will cover in some faux fur, still work in progress but thought I'd share. Here is the eyes repo if anyone is interested https://github.com/moochin/creature-eye

Here we go. I got a cheap ESP yellow display 2.8” screen touchscreen yesterday. I wanted to build a live train board as in the first image. My device could t do that do I settled on a live train board for one station, I just started vibing with Claude. It said a bunch of things I didn’t understand. But I did build the original app on lovable so I had a head start. Back and forth with Claude, visual code editor and clarifying what everything meant. Connected to my GitHub for the train app as the life data feeds are there for rail networks. Claude clarified, fixed errors, directed and I did as told, something my wife is not going to believe. So, it’s up and running. The stumbling block was I had to get the exact WiFi code which must be 2.4ghz. Claude spotted the error of wrong type case and we went ahead.. No results in my small local station so I switched in lovable interface as by now Claude is directing that on my machine. Insane Next is to get a better device to be able to add the map and have more local station departures. I’m going to see if I can do dot matrix on this one and loop in some kind of voice announcer from the actual platform announcer voice. My son is overjoyed! I’m going on holiday Monday and I was supposed to be packing tonight. I

Welcome to the club. Quick version of why this place exists: everyone's using AI to build software, and I think most of them are missing the more interesting move... For less than 50 quid you can buy a little computer, plug it in, and have Claude write the code to make it do genuinely useful stuff. No soldering. No electronics background. I'd know, I haven't got one. I run a marketing agency. Six months ago I couldn't have built any of this. Right now there are devices on my desk that: - Show my Claude Code usage so I can see it working - Scroll through my calendar, the weather, and a client's live ad numbers - Play a fanfare when that client makes a sale (easily the best feature I've built) I'm five devices in and I'm documenting everything here as I go: what I buy, what it costs, what breaks, the prompts I use, the code Claude writes, all of it. The builds that fail go up too, because that's where the actual lessons are. I'm not an expert. I'm maybe three weeks ahead of you. That's the point of the club: work it out in public, together. Do these two things now: 1. Drop a comment introducing yourself: who you are and what you'd put on a little screen on YOUR desk if you could. Best answer gets built on camera. 2. Turn on notifications for this group so you catch the builds as they land. Fish

@Adam Bara I'm keen on the same for my son. I also have an app trainspotter uk that has live trains on a map so I will pull that in! Love to see how you get on with this

I'm here to procrastinate. As soon as I saw Nick share his hard hardware I thought, looks cool but what the fuck is it. But I knew it seemed cool to me. It was the word WHIMSEY that pulled me in though. Why not have some fun with this stuff. I would have loved this when I was a kid - I think of the things I could have created. I could have has Action Mans deployments on there or Daley Thompson decathlon usage on the Atari. But for now I am keen to create something for my son's model railway. Maybe a departureboard like Adam above or live train data for local trains that appear like the image attached (from our app) Screen arriving today!
