Why we program more strength than cardio in every plan.
The body composition equation has two levers:
  1. How much muscle you have
  2. How much fat you have
Cardio mostly works on lever 2 (and the effect is smaller than people think). Strength works on both, it builds muscle AND it raises your resting metabolic rate, so you're burning more calories all day even when you're not training.
That's why a lifter at the same body weight as a runner often looks leaner. Not magic. Math.
If your goal is body composition (not endurance for an event), strength is the bigger lever. Always has been.
