🪞 UnShaming Reflections
We talk about feelings like they're fixed things. "I'm angry." "I'm sad." "I'm anxious." As if the feeling is a room we walk into and get stuck in forever.
But feelings aren't solid states. They're in motion. When a feeling is actually allowed to be felt, not labeled, not managed, not pushed away, it starts to shift. It moves. It becomes the next thing.
Someone might feel powerful, and then at ease, and then at rest, and then safe. That's a feeling being allowed to flow.
But when a feeling is shamed into silence, it gets stuck. It stops moving. And we end up spending years thinking "I'm just an angry person" or "I'm always anxious," when the truth is that feeling never got a chance to go where it was heading.
This week's reflection:
Think of a feeling that feels stuck in you. Something that's been there a while. Something you've tried to think your way through, understand, or get rid of, but it keeps coming back. What if, instead of trying to figure it out, you just let yourself feel it fully for a moment, without fixing it or labeling it? If you did, where do you think it might want to go next? What might be on the other side of it?
Feelings don't get stuck because something is wrong with you. They get stuck because they were never allowed to move. 💜
