The ancients couldn't have known that DNA exists in our blood which identifies our connection to every single ancestor on to the dawn of man. And yet.. Blood is and has always been an essential part of Pagan practices, traditions, Blot rituals, witchcraft and ancestor work. Sacrifice is a concept we don't really understand today the same way our ancestors did. Because of our medical knowledge of blood, we tend to think of it as unsanitary or even as "self harm" to use blood in this way. This gives such practices a sort of taboo, macabre or morbid connotation which only serves to give it a bad name. However, if done with care, using sterilized tools, knowing where is safe to administer a small incision, powerful ancestor magic can be performed. This only requires the smallest drop. And though this would for sure seem morbid, women have a natural source to take from. This is big for fertility rituals, for connecting with the womb of your bloodline. The women. Your ancestors are those who remain in the spirit world and in my personal perspective, I believe deeply in reincarnation. So, to me you can choose to return and live a new life for new experiences and to impact the physical realm, or you can remain spirit and become a guiding spirit for your kin. If you remain an ancestor, you can't do much to impact the physical, you must work through your living descendants. And we just don't do stuff like that anymore, no whwre near enough.. Honoring our ancestors, having actual communication with them in forms of divination. This leaves the spirit realm restless with neglected ancestors who must be very frustrated with us these days I imagine. But if you have ever had a loved one pass, and then saw a sign you just KNOW was from them, then you know. You already know! They are with us. And they want to help us. Ancestors, if you embrace them, are like an army at your back. They are the bloodline for hundreds of people who have lived and died so you could do the same today! So you could be here! Even if they didn't know they would even have a 56th great grandchild, well, they do! You! And they may be waiting for the chance to tell you what they truly wanted for your family! What they died for. Not an empire and it's wealth and power. Not a life of working 80 hours a week to barely get by in misery. Oh no! Certainly this isn't what they imagined the future would be like for their descendants, but here we are!
