How To Delete a Face(sheet) that was extruded from a bridged curve?

Hey guys! So in Nikita's tutorials he will extrude out from a bridged curve between two edges in order to patch an area with tangency of G1. Once the area is patched, he goes in and easily deletes the face by selecting it and pressing "x". However, when I do this, I get "cannot dissolve face". I know it's probably user error on my end and would love any advice/tips on how to delete a face without having to "cut" it off from the main body. Thanks!
