I’ve recently discovered this YouTube channel aimed at supporting children with learning Chinese in an immersive way. It’s great immersion for beginners + pre-intermediates and a good way to expose yourself to other Mandarin accents (they speak with a southern accent). For beginners: Listen for key words e.g. like / is / what / have / good etc. Learn some words from the list below, then listen again. For upper beginners/pre-intermediates: Listen to see how much you understand. Listen to see how many words from the list you can hear. Learn the words from the list. Listen again to see if you can understand more. Practice shadowing with some key words/phrases to practice intonation + tones. ……… This video shows a mum and her daughter creating a volcano experiment 🌋 at home and narrating the process to the audience. ………. That said, there are no subtitles to support listening and the characters are in traditional Chinese. So, I have prepared a list of key words for you with pinyin, English + simplified characters. This way you can learn some key words and enjoy some brilliant Mandarin immersion! 😊🎧📝. Let’s learn some key words about bubble tea and how to order one in Mandarin. 1. 珍珠奶茶 zhēn zhū nǎi chá = bubble tea 》 珍珠 zhēn zhū - pearl，奶 nǎi (牛奶 niú nǎi) - milk ， 茶 chá - tea 2. 一杯 yī bēi - one cup 3. 冰的 bīng de / 热的 rè de - iced / hot 4. 冰量 bīng liàng - ice level 》 正常冰 zhèng cháng bīng - regular ice / 去冰 qù bīng - no ice / 少冰 shǎo bīng - less ice 5. 甜度 tián dù - sweetness level 》 少糖 shǎo táng - less sweet /半糖 bàn táng - half sweet / 正常糖 zhèng cháng táng - regular sweet (aka full sweet) 6. Transition (前进乐团) is a British band from Bristol. However, they have produced many songs in Mandarin which are great for beginners as they use simpler language. Here’s a website I have used for reading practice in Chinese in the past. There are short stories, children’s stories and fables etc., so it’s a bit more interesting than reading ‘regular’ passages. You can also see the English translation and hover over the characters for their pinyin and English meaning.
