The most expensive conversation you will ever have is the one you never start.
You want the bigger contract.
You want the better price.
You want the introduction.
You want someone to say yes.
But you never ask.
Because you (THINK you) already know the answer:
  • They will say no.
  • It is too much.
  • It is not how it works.
  • People do not do that.
Except you do not actually know that.
You decided it.
For them.
Before a single word was spoken.
This is one of the most common and most costly habits I see in business owners.
Pre-negotiating against yourself:
  • Discounting the price in your head before quoting it.
  • Assuming the answer before asking the question.
  • Talking yourself out of the ask in a conversation that only you are having.
The client never said no.
You said it for them.
I have seen people go years charging less than they are worth
because they assumed the market would not pay more:
  • They never tested it.
  • They just assumed.
I have seen people let relationships go cold
because they felt awkward asking for an introduction.
I have seen people leave money on the table, miss opportunities,
settle for less than they should
not because the world said no to them
but because they said no to themselves first.
Here is the truth:
  • Most people are not offended when you ask directly.
  • Most organisations have more flexibility than they will ever volunteer.
  • Most opportunities are sitting there waiting for someone with the nerve to name them.
And the ones who say no?
You are no worse off than before you asked.
You have lost nothing.
You are exactly where you were.
But the ones who say yes change everything.
So ask for the order.
  • Ask for the referral.
  • Ask for the better rate.
  • Ask if there is flexibility.
  • Ask for the meeting.
  • Ask the question you have been sitting on for weeks.
The worst that can happen is they say no.
The best that can happen is they say yes
and you wonder why on earth
you waited so long.
If you do not ask, the answer is always no.
ALWAYS !!.
