💎 OpenSEO + DataForSEO = The Best Ahrefs Alternative
Just recorded a short on the cheapest way I've found to build your own Ahrefs.
Ahrefs Lite is $129 a month. My setup runs on two things:
- OpenSEO (github.com/every-app/open-seo): an open-source Ahrefs alternative (22,600 GitHub stars). This is the dashboard.
Self-hosting OpenSEO costs about $5-10 a month (or FREE if you're just using it locally.
DataForSEO is pay as you go, roughly $0.05 per 1,000 keywords.
You pay for the data you pull. Not a monthly seat.
(Heads up: DataForSEO's minimum top-up is $50, but it sits on your balance until you spend it.)
OpenSEO also has an MCP, so Claude Code can pull your keywords, backlinks and rankings for you.
I put together a PDF guide you can hand straight to your AI to set the whole thing up, plus the short that walks through how it works:
