Understanding the adjustments journey
Hello! We have been seeing Simon for adjustments to assist with our 9-week old’s tongue tie. Also has a lip tie. Feeding has always been pretty good… comfortable for me and he is easily putting on weight. However wind/gas has been an issue and I notice he seems to be tiring from feeds (difficult to separate from normal newborn tiredness though..). As parents we are reading up as much as we can to understand tongue tie and all possible effects over the long term. Post-appointments we are seeing good results from improved breathing, latch strength greater range of movement in the tongue. His snuffly nose really clears up after an adjustment too. A lingering question seems to be whether adjustments can fully address potential issues or if there is ever a reason to combine body work with a cut to release. I suspect I already know the answer but in the spirit of “all questions welcome” I’m putting it out there! Another query I have is around identifying whether methylation and homocysteine are contributing factors now. Should I be getting a blood test to identify pathway issues so that I can help my child through breastfeeding or just focus on getting the nutrition right? Many thanks, Chelsea & Michael
Tongue Tie Dilema
Hi there, we have a 5 week old baby which was diagnosed with a type II tongue tie the day she was born and we were recommended to have it cut. We are a chiropractic couple and knew there had to be other options before that, so that's when our journey started. We cancelled our tongue tie intervention which was programmed 2 weeks after birth. breastfeeding was painful specially on my left breast, I have one mastittis and nipple soreness which came and went, but she was gaining weight well and after a breastfeeding consultant it improved. The main issue now was that she was constaly regurgitating milk and vomiting almost every feed, as well as being terribly uncomfortable with trapped wind also after every feed. She is constañy restless, highly alert and hardly sleeps. She also has a constantly white lining on her toungue, she is a mouthbreather and has a little rash in her face and neck which we feel is slowly extending lightly over her legs.... We started adjusting our baby from day one, but we are considering now cuttig the tongue tie on top of the adjutsments as we feel our baby will always have some issues unless we adress it. I would really like to know your thoughts, what are we doing wrong?
Our Breastfeeding Story
Hi everyone, my baby is now 10 months old - time truly flies! When he was first born, he didn't latch even though I felt like we tried to do everything right. My baby boy was placed on my chest for skin to skin for three uninterrupted hours, but he never went to latch. We struggled with feeding in those early days and saw multiple lactation consultants both in hospital and once we were home. Feeding was incredibly painful. At one of my private midwife appointments we were told he had an upper lip tie and that it would likely get worse and that he would struggle to ever feed properly or gain weight. I won't lie hearing this really stressed us. Part of me wondered, what if they were right? Without anyone properly assessing the inside of his mouth, we were given a number to have his upper lip lasered and told that this woukd fix everything. Instead my husband and I continued taking him to Simon and we worked gently on his body tension (caused from the way he came out of the birth canal) and supporting him to latch more effectively. Interestingly Simon was never concerned about his upper lip and after learning more about this, what my son had began to seem very normal. As weeks went on, we began to learn more about one another and I stopped pressuring myself and my baby to feed in a cetain way or hold a certain position. When I let go of these expectations, he latched and he figured it out on his own. No cutting, no lasering just time and support. Now ten months later and my baby boy is thriving and we're pretty much breastfeeding pros 🤍
Hi everyone ☺️
I don’t have children yet, but I’m planning to in the near future and wanted to be proactive and informed before that journey begins. I’m here to learn, understand the bigger picture, and feel more confident heading into pregnancy and early parenthood when the time comes. Grateful to be here and already finding so much value in this space 🫶🏻
