Hey!
I did my outreach session yesterday and I used the "permission method” and I got one response out of five (I'm doing 5 per day) requesting the video. YAYYY!
Hey!
A Job Search Quest Success (And What You Can Learn From It!)
Hey guys! I had a great call today that I wanted to tell you about and give you some tips I used that really made it go better. Before I even met with this person, I spent time looking through her LinkedIn profile to anticipate what might be holding her back which Kev recommended. One villain stood out right away: ⚔️ The Bio Section Bully – Her About section was polished but generic. It listed her background and achievements, but nothing that really told her story or made her stand out from thousands of other professionals in her field. Going in with this in mind meant I could: - Ask questions that confirmed my suspicions (like: Did she have a pitch? Had she written a pain letter before?) - Show her exactly what these villains were in her job search - Give her clarity on what aspects of her job search were being overlooked During our session, we also identified: ⚔️ Mission Statement Fog – She realized she didn’t have a clear, one-sentence pitch that tied her skills and experience directly to an employer’s needs. This was especially tricky because she was trying to appeal to both the gaming industry and other sectors at the same time. By the end, I had explained out how fixing these would give her a stronger, more confident message across her About section, cover letters, interviews, and networking. And this is a person with 16 years of experience in gaming that I helped today! Wow! That I could help someone with so much more experience is insane. She’s planning on reviewing my services/pricing to determine if she wants to move forward. But even if she doesn’t, I learned more about what I’m capable of today. And that is a big win!
Starting a Skool Community (and What to Do First!)
Hey everyone, I'm going to start a Skool Community! 😁 Now that there is a $9 a month option, I finally get to make it a reality. And I'm pretty excited about it! This is what it will focus on: 🧟‍♀️ Weekly/Monthly Villain Challenges A new “Job Search Villain” (e.g., The Mission Statement Fog, The Resume Phisher, The RTO Reaper) introduced every week or month depending on the villain Guided strategies to “defeat” each villain through mindset shifts, writing tools, and community support 📚 Weekly Live Lessons Live sessions where we break down the villain, share success stories, and practice tactical strategies Includes Q&A and live feedback sessions 💬 1:1 Coaching Support Option to book individual writing/mindset coaching calls for custom support Feedback on resumes, bios, LinkedIn content, and interview prep 🏆 Gamified Engagement + Rewards Earn XP, badges, or “anti-villain tools” for: Completing mini-challenges Attending live sessions Supporting others in the community Sharing wins or lessons learned Redeem XP for: Free or discounted courses Bonus challenges or power-ups Access to hidden boss levels (advanced workshops) 📖 Access to Exclusive Content Mini-courses, checklists, templates, and strategy decks unlocked by progress 💡 Peer Power-Ups Community feedback threads (villain-related prompts, writing critiques, encouragement posts) What I'm doing first though, is having people in my community complete this Google feedback form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSerNByWSESUc0xFlW6KvFB8wejRaT_q50h3z3Z3RcMXWnlwDw/viewform?usp=dialog I highly recommend you guys do this first to gauge interest. You can use similar versions of the questions in the form as well. And give people a reward for filling it out. I made a sale today because of it! :) If you want to know how to do this, let me know! And if you have any suggestions about what I should do, send 'em my way.
Big Announcements!
I've been meaning to make this post for a while, so let's get right to it. 1.) I'll be giving a presentation at Edu361 Expo July 25th. Here's the link to the event: https://www.proed.com.vn/edu361expo. Below is the topic I submitted (on a whim, really) and it got accepted: For anyone who uses Twee for educational materials, you might find this helpful! Title: Industry Relevance in Business English: How Twee Revolutionizes Adaptive Adult ESL Education Abstract: Founded in 2023, Twee is an AI curriculum designed for teachers in language education. It provides a variety of tools that generate vocabulary, grammar, text, and questions based on simple prompts. Rather than try to "fit" students' needs based on pre-made lesson plans and textbooks, this site allows teachers to develop entire lessons that actively incorporate specific industry terminology at various CFR levels for textual and conversational relevancy. Future business English instruction will be better aligned with the students' specific background rather than general occupational language. Key takeaways: - The Need for Industry Adaptation in Adult ESL - Ways Twee Can Bridge the Educational Gap Between Student Needs and Language-Appropriate Material - The Future of Business English with Twee 2.) This week, I'll be pursuing Level 2 of my Gamification certification with Sententia Gamification. This is a 3-week course with a presentation due in August. My hope is to better integrate games into my coaching and teaching practices with the experience I gain (and maybe be more desirable as an educator for other part-time work!) I'll even be creating a game prototype as my final project. I'll also be pursuing a Geek Therapy Certification (basically a 2-hour course) July 19th. Their mission is "to advocate for and teach the effective and meaningful use of popular media in therapeutic, educational, and community practice." So I thought that might be interesting.
New Post Series + 2 Good Lessons (Thanks Kev!)
Today's lesson was really helpful for me. The levels of awareness, coincidentally, made me more aware of how I should go about creating relevant content for my core audience based on my unique offer. And so, I had an idea to create "Villain of the Week" posts where I spotlight a villain in my Job Search Joy program every week, Monday-Thursday will be info about the villains, their weaknesses, and tips for overcoming language and mental hurdles. Then Friday is a poll related to the villain (for example: The Mission Statement Fog shows up in sneaky ways. Which of these do you relate to most? 🔘 I’m not sure what role I'm best suited for 🔘 I can’t describe what makes me stand out 🔘 I say “open to anything” but don’t get interviews 🔘 I’m still trying to figure it all out) This could go on for over half a year, basically, if I play my cards right. LESSON 1: How do you keep conversations and engagement going? Suck the marrow out of every opportunity. I figured this out after my free workshop last weekend (and in part, thanks to Kevin urging me to document things when I ran my beta cohort) -- I wasn't just done with it after the live presentation. The people who watch the free recording and provide feedback in a survey will get a free spotlight post on LinkedIn. That way, I'm getting valuable reviews that I can use for marketing purposes (and to refine my workshops in the future.) Meanwhile, they're getting visibility plus helpful job search tips. I look good, they look good, I gain more content, more credibility. It's win-win-win-win-win. With this series, I'm sucking the marrow out of every villain so that people really understand what they're up against and what they need to do. My hope is that this series will be at least somewhat successful at engaging people. But either way, the structure should help build an interested audience who wants to know which villain I'll focus on each week. LESSON 2: Create a visual for every aspect of your program to make it concrete in people's minds.
