Welcome!
Hi, welcome to The Care Staff Community, it's great to have you! My name is Tash, and I've worked in the UK care and support sector since 2018. Over my years in the sector I've worked as both a support worker and a team leader, and I have a Level 3 BTEC in Adult Care. I learnt very quickly one of the number one rules of working in care when I started my first job - staff teams absolutely have to have each others' backs. The work is physically, mentally and emotionally demanding, and sometimes all you've got is each other. I created this space for care assistants and support workers across the country to come together and offer support, insight and shared experiences that will be supportive and useful during the daily grind. We keep things professional and confidential here so you're safe to share respectfully. In the free tier of the group, we have regular weekly discussions to get to know each other and offer support. These include: - Shift Challenge on Wednesdays: here we discuss our most difficult moments of the week and offer support, advice and guidance to each other. - Skill Focus on Tuesdays: this is where we discuss a particular skill that is pertinent to care and support and how we can implement these skills in the workplace. - What Would You Do post on Fridays: discussing a particular scenario and how we would deal with it according to our experience. - Weekly Wins on Sundays: the final post of the week which celebrates successes and sets us up for a positive outlook in the week ahead. - Free downloadables to help in your professional development, up to three available at any one time on a regularly rotating basis. If you join the premium tier, you can access a regular rotation of thorough downloadables to support you in your professional development and mental/emotional health whilst working in the sector, as well as a monthly Q&A opportunity. It costs less than a McDonald's to join ๐Ÿ‘€ The Weekly Schedule is included in this post. Please make sure to read the house rules too!

Weekly Challenges - UK Care & Support Staff
Care work has incredible moments, but it also comes with difficult situations. This weekโ€™s reflection: What challenge did you face on shift this week? It could be something like: โ€ข A difficult conversation โ€ข Behaviour that was hard to manage โ€ข A situation that left you unsure what the best approach was โ€ข A moment that tested your patience or confidence If you feel comfortable sharing, what did you take away from the experience? Letโ€™s support each other and learn from the realities of the job. Please remember confidentiality when posting ๐Ÿ’™

Professional Language - Skill Focus Week 1
UK Care & Support Workers, it's time for the first Tuesday weekly discussion. Take a peek at the following questions: - How do you respond when a family member of a person you support speaks to you disrespectfully? - What phrases help you stay calm but remain firm? - What's your go-to disengagement or reset phrase when tensions rise? Offer your advice and guidance to your fellow peers in the comments and take time to learn from each other. I'll update with my thoughts shortly!
Nearly time to discuss our care skills!
Just a couple of hours until the first Tuesday 'Skill Focus' post, where we have the opportunity to discuss a particular skill chosen just for this week, to advise and encourage each other, and to learn from our peers in the UK care and support sector. I look forward to seeing you here at 1pm!

This is a brief look at the Week One downloadables available to Premium tier members. There are over 40 pages across these three downloadables and new ones are added every week. It's just $9 to join, that's less than ยฃ7 for my fellow UK care and support workers ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ More Premium tier benefits will be revealed soon - and anyone in Free tier will still get to enjoy the four weekly scheduled discussions ๐ŸŽ‰
