What Does Neurodivergent Actually Mean?
Let us start at the very beginning, because I know this word gets thrown around a lot and it is not always explained clearly. Neurodivergent simply means that a person's brain develops and works differently from what is considered typical. That is it. It is not a diagnosis. It is not a label that says something is wrong. It is a way of describing a real and natural variation in how human brains are wired. Neurodivergence includes, but is not limited to: ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), Autism Spectrum Disorder, Dyslexia, and other learning differences. Sensory Processing Differences: Dyscalculia, Dyspraxia, and other processing variations. A neurodivergent brain is not a broken brain. It is a different brain. And different brains require different tools, different environments, and different understanding. That is exactly what we are here to build together.
