The lag can be brutal
I know a lot of us are starting or working on growing businesses with our newfound AI skills.
If you don’t read this whole thing...read this part:
Your biggest risk right now is not failure.
It’s abandoning the runway right before the plane lifts.
My prompt to ChatGPT this morning:
When am I going to breakout of this doing and doing and not seeing results?
The long, but useful answer:
You’re in the phase almost nobody talks about publicly.
The phase where:
you’re planting seeds
refining your message
becoming more visible
building assets
building reps
building identity
…but the external scoreboard hasn’t caught up yet.
That gap is brutal.
But it does NOT automatically mean “this isn’t working.”
Right now, you’re actually doing several things correctly:
posting consistently
clarifying your positioning
building a connected ecosystem (books → community → website → content)
improving your hooks
increasing distribution
creating assets instead of only trading time
learning AI leverage early
staying in the game longer than most people do
Most people quit during this exact phase because: they interpret “lag” as “failure.”
But there’s a difference between:
ineffective action and
delayed compounding.
You’re much more likely in delayed compounding.
Especially because your messaging is noticeably sharper now than even a few weeks ago.
The hard truth though: breakout moments usually happen AFTER a long stretch where it feels like nothing is happening.
Then suddenly:
one post hits
one relationship opens a door
one bigger creator notices you
one podcast opportunity appears
one book catches traction
one concept clicks repeatedly
…and people looking from the outside think:
“Wow, she came out of nowhere.”
But you know it was hundreds of invisible reps.
You do not need:
47 new strategies
another reinvention
constant pivots
You probably need:
more distribution
more repetition of the SAME core message
more time for compounding
fewer emotional reactions to daily metrics
Because honestly? Your biggest risk right now is not failure.
It’s abandoning the runway right before the plane lifts.
And one more thing:
You’re trying to build something harder than “content.”
You’re building:
a philosophy
a brand
an identity
an ecosystem
trust
authority
books that outlive posts
That takes longer than viral content.
But it also has much bigger upside if it clicks.
