Stop chasing the newest AI tool. It's not your problem.
I get it. Every week there's a new tool that promises to "revolutionize" your business. New chatbot. New content generator. New automation platform. And the FOMO is real — you see other people posting about it and think "am I falling behind?"
You're not. But you might be falling for something.
Here's what I keep running into when I look under the hood of coaching and education businesses:
They've got 3 different AI tools they signed up for in the last 90 days. They watched the tutorial. Maybe even played with it for an afternoon.
And then... nothing. It sits there. Another tab. Another login. Another $29/month subscription quietly draining the account while they go back to doing things the way they always did.
The tool wasn't the problem. The MISSING PIECE was the problem.
Here's what I mean.
AI is a vehicle. A powerful one. But a vehicle without a destination just burns fuel.
Before you touch any AI tool — new or old — you need to be brutally clear on five things:
Your GOAL. Not "grow my business." What specifically? More discovery calls? A course launch? Better client retention? You need a target so clear you could write it on a sticky note.
Your MISSION. Why does your business exist beyond making money? What are you actually trying to change for the people you serve? Because the AI content you produce, the automations you build, the research you do — all of it needs to carry that mission. Otherwise it's just noise that sounds like everyone else's noise.
Your CONTEXT. Where are you right now? Not where you want to be. Where you actually are. How many clients. What your capacity looks like. What's working and what isn't. An AI tool built for a 7-figure operation will just create chaos in a business that's still finding its first 10 consistent clients.
Your USP. What makes you different from the other 500 coaches in your niche? If you can't answer that in one sentence, no AI tool on the planet will figure it out for you. It'll just help you blend in faster.
Your SMALL FISH POND. This one's big. Who specifically are you serving? Not "entrepreneurs" or "women who want to level up." That's an ocean, not a pond. You need to know your people so well that when you write for them, they feel like you're reading their mind. AI can help you speak to those people — but only if you can tell it exactly who they are.
When you've got those five things locked in, something wild happens.
You don't need the newest tool. You need the RIGHT tool. And suddenly choosing becomes simple.
You stop asking "what's the best AI tool?" and start asking "what tool helps me do THIS specific thing for THESE specific people?"
That's a completely different question. And it has a much better answer.
The same thing applies to research, by the way.
I see people using AI to "do research" and coming back with generic surface-level summaries that could apply to any business in any industry. That's not research. That's a book report.
Real research with AI means feeding it your context. Your niche. Your audience. Your specific questions. When you do that, AI doesn't just find information — it finds information that actually moves YOUR needle.
The difference between "research AI trends in coaching" and "find me examples of how health coaches serving new moms are using automated onboarding sequences to reduce no-shows" is enormous. One gives you a Wikipedia article. The other gives you a competitive advantage.
But you can't ask the second question if you haven't done the work on those five foundations first.
So here's the reframe:
The coaches who are winning with AI right now aren't the ones who jumped on the newest platform first. They're the ones who got clear on who they are, who they serve, and what they're building — and THEN picked up AI as the tool to get there faster.
Clarity first. Tool second. Always.
Honest question — when you think about your own business, which of those five foundations feels the shakiest right now? Genuinely curious where people are getting stuck.
