Why actors should understand screenwriting
Your lines are only part of the script.
Understanding how a screenplay is built helps you read between the lines, spot the clues the writer has left for you, and make stronger choices — especially when there’s no director in the room.
Following on from our Hero’s Journey session, here are three of my favourite books to get you started.
Acting doesn’t exist in isolation. The more you understand about screenwriting, directing, production, self-taping and the filmmaking process as a whole, the more informed and prepared you become as an actor.
It’s about learning every side of the industry, and understanding what happens before, around and beyond your performance.
