Bonnie was the South African casting director on Netflix’s global phenomenon One Piece, with further credits including Chronicle, Around the World in 80 Days and Raised by Wolves. But Bonnie’s experience reaches far beyond casting. She directed The Story of an African Farm, starring Richard E. Grant and Armin Mueller-Stahl, and her award-winning feature Good Life collected major recognition at independent film festivals around the world. Now, through her viral vertical sitcom Shambles, Bonnie is helping lead the move into a new form of direct-to-audience storytelling—one that gives creators greater control over their work, their audience and their revenue. We would love to start running some live sessions here, but first we want to know if you are interested, and what you would actually want them to cover. We are Tracey and Claire. Between us we have spent a lot of years on both sides of the camera, made plenty of mistakes, rebuilt more than once, and come back to this work with a lot more truth than we started with. We built this room because we know how alone this industry can make you feel, and we do not want that for you. We will most likely kick off by welcoming our new members and getting to know each other properly, and then let the sessions grow from what you tell us you need. So tell us two things in the comments. First, what would actually help you right now. Maybe it is around motivation, the panic when a tape lands, trusting your choices, rebuilding confidence, working out what casting is really looking for, or how a set actually works when you are new to it, on as a day player or a five day player, and there is a lot to take in. I began my acting and modelling career shortly after bouncing back from a serious health scare in 2022. Before that, I had no experience in either field. Four years later, and reaching my 63rd year , my life and career have undergone a complete transformation—I’m healthy, recognised as an actor and model, and have several great experiences to my name.
