Here’s a little explanation of the reasons for using an arch in the bench press. Depending on the variation you’re performing, this will determine the degree of arch you use.
For shifting the heaviest loads we want to be as efficient as we can (maximum productivity with minimal wasted effort) so we maximise the arch to reduce the distance the bars travels.
For building strength & muscle we don’t want to be efficient, we want to make it “harder”, so we don’t use as much of an arch.
