Perseverance of the Saints: Finishing Strong in the Doctrines of Grace Hey everyone, we've made it to the final letter in TULIP, the P in the Doctrines of Grace. Perseverance of the Saints. This one hits close to home because life throws all kinds of curveballs, and sometimes it feels like we might not make it. But here's the good news straight from Scripture: if God has truly saved you, He will keep you. You won't lose your salvation because the same grace that started the work in you will finish it. Perseverance of the Saints isn't about us white knuckling our way through faith like some spiritual endurance test. It's about God's preserving power holding us secure. We might stumble, we might wrestle with sin, doubt, or hard seasons, but the true believer will endure to the end. Jesus said it clearly in John 10:28-29: “I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand.” That’s rock solid security. Paul echoes this in Philippians 1:6: “And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.” Think about what this means for us today. In a world full of distractions, trials, and spiritual warfare, this doctrine gives us real hope and confidence. It doesn’t mean we sit back and do nothing, far from it. We’re called to fight the good fight, pursue holiness, and abide in Christ daily. But when we fail or feel weak, we don’t spiral into fear that God might abandon us. Instead, we run back to the cross, repent, and keep going, knowing the Holy Spirit is at work in us. It’s freedom, not license to sin. As Jude 1:24-25 puts it, “Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy, to the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen.”
