Most of you are solving the wrong problem
I’ve had a few hundred conversations with producers this year. Almost every one of them opens with the same sentence. “I need more clients.” And most of the time, it isn’t true. When you actually pull it apart, “I need more clients” is nearly always one of four completely different problems, and they need completely different fixes: 1. You don’t know what you’re selling. You can do the work but you can’t say what it is in one sentence or what it costs. So every conversation starts from zero. 2. You know what you sell, nobody’s hearing about it. The offer’s fine. The problem is twelve people a month find out it exists. 3. People hear about it, then go quiet. Enquiries come in, conversations happen, nothing closes. 4. You’re busy and still skint. Plenty of work. The rate is wrong. Here’s why this matters more than it sounds. If you’ve got a number three problem and you go and fix number two, you’ll spend the next six months working harder, getting more enquiries, and earning exactly the same. That’s the most common way people waste a year. So before you do anything else this week, be honest about which one you actually are. Which number is you, right now? Drop just the number in the comments. One character. No explanation needed unless you fancy it. I’ll reply to every single one with where I’d start if it were me.
Start Here: Welcome to the StudioLand Producer Community
Hey and welcome! This is a free community for music producers who want to stop thinking of themselves as just a producer and start building a proper business around what they do. Whether you’re trying to land your first clients, make more consistent income, leave your day job, raise your prices, or simply understand the business side of being a producer, you’re in the right place! We’ve built this community to give you practical tools, education and people around you who are working towards the same thing. 🎮 Start with the Educational Arcade: One of the most fun things you’ll find inside the community is our Educational Arcade. It's a growing collection of interactive games and tools designed to help you make better business decisions. You’ll find things covering: - Sales - Pricing - Clients - Business decisions - Mindset - Day-to-day producer problems And we’re constantly adding more! 🎓 Work through the free education: You’ll also find a growing library of free training, including the Music Producer Sales Academy. It’s designed to help you understand the fundamentals of sales without turning you into someone who hates talking to clients. You’ll learn how to: - Start conversations naturally - Build trust before talking about price - Run better discovery and value calls - Present offers - Handle objections - Follow up properly - Build trust through content - Create a repeatable SalesOS There’s a lot more coming too. 👋🏼 Introduce yourself: Before you disappear into the Arcade, introduce yourself in the community. Tell us: - What you’re currently working on - What you’re trying to achieve - Where you’re currently getting stuck - A link to your work The more we understand what you’re trying to achieve, the more useful we can make this place. 💬 Don’t just consume here, utilise the community and the network here! This isn’t designed to be another place where you watch videos, save a few posts and never come back. Download the App so you can get the notifications on the go better.
Why Producers struggle...
Hey guys, Nearly the end of the week! I wanted to leave you with a video but I also wanted to drop the first video in the Sales Academy which you can find in 'Classroom' at the top of the app. I thought this perspective might be relatable to a lot of you. I want to ask two questions: - What is one step you've made this week towards your music business? - What is the one thing you didn't do but you know you need to? I want to hold you accountable and move things in the right direction. I can only do that if you're willing to share ☺️ Be brave, take the frist step! 42 messages. One call.
One of our members tracked his outreach properly for a month. Not vibes, actual numbers. Here's what it looked like: 42 artists contacted 11 replied 3 asked for his portfolio 1 booked a call That's a 26% reply rate. For cold outreach, that is genuinely good. And it still took 42 messages to get one conversation. This is the bit nobody tells you. Most people send eleven or twelve, get a couple of polite nos, decide outreach doesn't work for them, and quietly go back to waiting for someone to recommend them. They weren't bad at it. They stopped at message twelve. The number that decides your month isn't your reply rate. It's your volume. The members who get clients are not better writers than the ones who don't. They just send more. One thing that does shift the reply rate: I tested sending short video messages instead of text over a single weekend and got 124 responses. Same offer, same people, different format. A face gets answered. A paragraph gets scrolled. Now, if 42 messages a month sounds like a lot, you're right. It is. And the messaging isn't usually what beats people. The admin is. Remembering who you contacted, who replied, who needs chasing on Thursday. That's why Carl and I have been building Homegrown. It's a CRM made for this exact job: finding people worth contacting, keeping track of every conversation, and telling you who's gone cold and needs watering. We built it because nothing out there did it without feeling like a spreadsheet with extra steps. The waitlist is open and this community gets first access. Link below if you want in. So, honestly, no judgement: How many outreach messages did you send last week? Zero is a completely valid answer and I'd genuinely rather know. Drop your number in the comments 👇🏼
Looking for a producer for an upcoming Lana Savva release
We already have a fully developed Suno version with the melody, arrangement and overall production direction in place, and we’re looking for someone to recreate/rebuild that specific production professionally into a release-ready master. Sound: minimal, fashion-forward electronic pop with deep-house elements - sleek, atmospheric and modern. If interested, please DM with your rate and a few relevant examples of your work. We can send the track privately. Artist profile: https://open.spotify.com/artist/1Fu2fU9bYJmpcLT0RSZe5S?si=O7WEQ4uQQE6g729tIrgkAw
