How to get out of that blah mood fast
Do you ever have days where nothing feels exciting, nothing feels wrong, but everything just feels… flat? Not sad. Not burnt out. Not overwhelmed. Just stuck in neutral. I get this sometimes too, and for a long time I thought something was wrong with me. But there’s actually a real reason why this happens, and it’s not depression. It’s not a “life crisis”. It’s a nervous system state. I wanted to share what I’ve learned from studying my own patterns, having ADHD, moving through burnout, and just being human. Here’s what actually goes on. Sometimes your body has energy, but your mind doesn’t know where to put it. You’re not fully stressed. You’re not fully calm. You’re not shut down. You’re not activated. You’re in that awkward middle zone where you feel restless and flat at the same time.And when the body feels confused, the mind tries to explain it. That’s when the thoughts come in: “Nothing matters.” “I’m just doing things.” “My life feels pointless.” “Why don’t I feel excited about anything?” Those thoughts feel true, but they’re not truth.They’re just your brain trying to make sense of an under-stimulated nervous system. And this state often shows up after big pushes of energy. You work hard for days or weeks, then everything quietens, and your system doesn’t know what to do with itself. It’s tired but not depleted. It’s wired but not inspired. So what helps? Here are the four things that make the biggest difference for me: 1. Add a small dose of novelty Don’t overhaul your life. Just bring in something new. Walk a different route. Switch cafés. Rearrange one shelf. Start your day with a different task. A tiny shift can wake up your system in the best way. 2. Reduce digital noise When you’re flat, your purpose and drive are under-stimulated. Scrolling overstimulates everything else. It’s the worst combination. Give your system a break from all of that input. 3. Move your body for 10 to 15 minutes You don’t need a full workout. Just enough movement to lift your energy up.

We all do this thing where we want something… and then immediately start talking ourselves out of it. Let them meet you where you are. 1. The Two-Minute Grounding Ritual Sit, place both feet on the ground, breathe slowly into the belly, and imagine your energy dropping back into your body. A quiet reset for noisy days. 2. The Smoke + Sound Reset Light incense, sage, or even a candle. Then hum, chant, or use soft sound to shift the atmosphere. A beautiful blend of physical and energetic clearing. 3. The Single-Card Guidance Pull One card only. Ask: “What energy do I need to hold today?” Let that message shape your day with intention. 4. The Water Blessing Bless your morning water or tea with a single word: Peace. Strength. Clarity. Let that intention move through your body as you sip. 5. The Evening Unravelling Before bed, place a hand on your heart and name one thing you’re releasing, one thing you’re grateful for, and one thing you’re calling in. Here's some of my insights around creating a Morning Routine for Manifesting Generators: its about finding freedom inside structure. Especially if you’re a Manifesting Generator or a creative who craves consistency but resists being pinned down by it. For years, mine swung between two extremes: I either followed a rigid plan that made me feel like the class swot, or I threw the plan out completely and promised myself I’d “start again Monday.” I’d build lists of everything I wanted to include: journalling, meditation, movement, card pulls, podcast – then realised I’d created a full-time job to ‘fit in’ before 8 a.m. At one point, my coach suggested I make a “magic box” of everything I could do in the morning and simply choose what felt right each day. That idea made sense to my MG energy, so I designed worksheets, graphics, and prompts… and then never used them. Sound familiar? When structure turns into self-pressure A few months later, I started The Artist’s Way as an exploration with a group of Human Design friends and began writing morning pages. These are several stream-of-consciousness pages before the mind wakes fully. I loved it. Until I didn’t. Even that practice, as powerful as it was, started to feel like another thing I “should” do. That’s when I realised the issue wasn’t the activity. It was the expectation. Expectation I was putting on myself – because, let’s face it, no one else really cares.
