Golden Milk : my other favorite tea
More cold weather begs me to bring out golden milk : a turmeric based tea
I love this tea for several reasons. I love the spiciness and warmth of it. And I love the anti-inflammatory benefits of this tea. Curcumin in the compound responsible for the anti-inflammatory benefits and is activated by piperine found in black pepper. Those two should always be together in order to have those benefits.
I also like that golden milk is caffeine free so I can drink it any time. It is also very easy on the stomach and aids in digestion as an added benefit.
If you want more coconut flavor, you can blitz in 1-2 tsp coconut powder in the final step.
*side note : turmeric will stain clothes. It has been used as a dye for centuries. It will also turn your Invisalign trays yellow and will stain retainers for those of you who wear those. 😆
Golden Milk Tea
  • 8 oz. coconut milk (or regular milk)
  • 8 oz. filtered water
  • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • ¼ teaspoon ground high oil cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ginger
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cardamom
  • pinch black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup or honey
OPTIONAL
  • ½ tablespoon MCT coconut oil or coconut oil
Method
  1. Add all ingredients to a saucepan over medium heat and bring to a simmer. Simmer for 10 minutes to let the flavors meld.
  2. If using the coconut oil, add that in now.
  3. Using a hand blender, blitz the tea in the pot for 3-5 seconds just to emulsify everything. Serve immediately.
