👉🏽I must be perfefct 👉🏽Everything I do should go easily and without effort 👉🏽It is safer to do nothing than to take a risk and fail 👉🏽I should have no limitations 👉🏽If it's not done right, it's not worth doing at all 👉🏽I must avoid being challenged 👉🏽If I succeed, someone will get hurt🤔 (What do you think this might look like) Is procrastinating something you’ve identified as a reason why you potentially have been putting off making your health and wellbeing a priority? Maybe it’s indirectly affected by not having enough time because of other things you are procrastinating on. 🤔 While many people think that procrastination is a habit or identity flaw such as laziness, procrastination is actually a stress response. There are 4 commonly identified stress response categories: FLIGHT ✈️ FIGHT 🥊 FREEZE 🥶 FAWN 🎭 1. Which do you think 🤔 procrastination falls under? 2. Why do you think that is? 3. Can you share an example of a time you may have done this?

The Four Horsemen of Procrastination
😴🛌Napping 🍿🍪Snacks 🧑‍💻Social Media 🧹🪣🧽🫧Minor Chores Have you ever sat with yourself and evaluate or assess your situation around getting your "To Do List" done? Are you someone that has no issues and is like a boss, ✅ checking things off one right after the other? Chances are, if you’re here in this community, it’s because you’re looking for some assistance in getting things done. ✅ For myself, I have a small “system” that entails getting a few things done. However, my goal is to be able to get much more done in an objective no nonsense way. One thing I’ve realized about myself is I am much more efficient in cleaning and organizing other people’s homes. When it comes to my own, I get wrapped into overthinking and instead of putting the paper in the basket for future review, I get off track reviewing it at that moment. 😖🤦🏻‍♀️ While some may not see the inefficiency in this, what it comes down to is the intention of the time spent. If it’s to make my office a workable space, then reviewing the paperwork at that moment is not part of that objective. Therefore, getting me off track, behind, and chances are higher that I’ll be more stressed and overwhelmed and when I don’t have my project completed, guilt and shame potentially set in. 😒 I am reviewing an awesome book at the moment, and if you’re interested in learning more about “How To Get Things Done”, stay tuned for a classroom dropping soon.

Procrastination and Discipline
While these two are different, they often go hand in hand. So why am I talking about them in a health and wellness group? Often I come across, for myself and clients, that making healthy lifestyle practices and behaviors a part of our everyday "rituals" is we lack discipline and/or we are expert procrastinators. PROCRASTIONATION: n- "The action of delaying or postponing something." Keeping the above definition in mind, it would appear that the intention and desire is there, but the act of following through is where the ball is dropped. But why? DISCIPLINE: n- "Activity or experience that provides mental or physical training; A system of rules of conduct" v- "Punish or rebuke (someone) formally for an offense"; "Train oneself to do something in a controlled and habitual way" WOW...... discipline on the other hand seems to have several different definitions, and is considered both a noun and a verb. Is that possibly why we might "lack" discipline as adults? Especially the parts of us that don't feel we should have to operate by a standard of rules and certainly have no desire to "obey" anything or anyone. That's my case. I've been a rebel all my life. Always questioning "rules" and requiring good rational before I would "obey" or "comply" with them. However, the definition of discipline that states ACTIVITY or EXPERIENCE that provides TRAINING and doing so in a CONTROLLED and HABITUAL way, doesn't sound so bad. Especially if I get to make the conscious decision that I want to do something. Like perform strength training or get my heart rate up. Like go to sleep at a time that allows me to get enough rest for the next day, and even choosing to fast or eat nutritious meals. So hopefully coming full circle now, when it comes to practicing healthy lifestyle behaviors consistently in a controlled and habitual way can help decrease our procrastination on doing those things that haven't been instilled in us as second nature. When it comes to your desire and intention around improving your health and wellness, please be sure to keep in mind that we (me) may have some real mental and emotional barriers to overcoming things such as procrastination and discipline. I will never call someone lazy or assume that they dont really want to do something because what they say is different than what they do. I know there are other reasons, and I CAN'T WAIT, to talk more about RESISTANCE and other great subjects that absolutely need to be tackled first before we can expect ourselves to be "successful" in LIVING a healthy lifestyle.

Im a HUGE Fan of Continuous Glucose Monitors
Some members here might have continuous glucose monitors and some of them may even be part of my 1:1 coaching program that allows me to work with them and monitor their glucose levels remotely. Thats one of the reasons why I love CGM's (continuous glucose monitors). But this isn't a post about CGM's LOL. 😆 It's actually to highlight the company that I have used previously when I was interested in knowing what my bodies response was to different foods and life circumstances. It was such a great insight and it's one that I recommend to everyone I know and work with. Especially if you don't have diabetes, but are at high risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes. Type 2 Diabetes is COMPLETELY PREVENTABLE & COMPLETELY REVERSABLE with awareness and mindful intentional daily habits or behaviors. Is it easy, NOPE. Is it possible. ABSOLUTELY. Another reason why I wanted to bring up Nutrisense, the company that I used the CGM with, is because I get a lot of great information from them, and will be linking articles that I reference in my posts. I want you to know where I get my info and know that I am not making things completely up. https://www.nutrisense.io/blog Their values are very much inline with Good Roots Wellness. "PERSONALIZATION -We support the personal and varied needs of our members, acknowledging that each and every health journey is unique. DISCOVERY -We help our members arrive at ‘aha’ moments of discovery through a balance of data-driven insights and professional expertise. INSIGHT -We help our members understand complex health & wellness topics and translate their data into actionable insights. COMMUNITY -We strive to make every member's story a success story and value the feedback we receive from our members. EMPOWERMENT -We give our members tools and information to identify red flags, adopt new habits and improve their lives." After all my raving about Nutrisense you are probably heading to the website now to check them out. DO IT!! They are a great resource and I wouldn't want to keep you from them. The thing to keep in mind is that they only work with people who do not have diabetes, they aren't available outside of the US and they are EXPENSIVE.
