[EDIT (final) Feb 11] All done 💯 I have added a tutorial file in PDF for anyone who wants to try this. It took me a looooong time and it is the first time I have ever done a full tutorial so please give it a try and let me know what you think. I added the PDF to this post and it is down in the replies as well.
[EDIT Feb 05] Okay we are pretty much done. Just waiting on me to write up the results and post them here. I am slow though, so please go ahead and keep trying it if you like.
For anyone who is all finished,
- have you tried making one with hundreds of holes, like speaker grille?
- How could you parametrically link the size of the holes to the number of holes, so that they always adjust to fit without destroying the structure?
The answers to all your questions .... Soon™
[EDIT Feb 02] After Aryan posted his submission I found a couple more problems with the drawing and my actual master file (big surprise 😬) so I have updated the drawing with some scribbles. Should not change too much but if i caused anyone pain im terribly sorry.
[EDIT - I think this will be the last level for this model, as I have ideas for different ones already, so EVERYone give it a try if you want. What is a master's way? ]
Shouting out the recent forum illuminati to come drop some knowledge , and of course and (Sorry to spam y'all 😔)
and of course anyone who is still beginning, try this out. It is aimed at being good learning for people who are starting out.
after this round I think we will move to a new model, unless there is interest in an even more diabolical edit.
========================================
We got a new request from the client. They want a more “dynamic” look and are asking that we make the whole thing curved.
I know it’s a pain, but try to make the fillet on the inner face terminate a consistent distance away from the hole edges, even though the front face will now be curved.
Also, someone in their marketing department noticed that the hole pattern has a long row on top but a short row on the bottom, making the bottom corners look a bit funky. I kinda have to agree.
So, add one more long row on the bottom to the hole pattern, will you?
I have attached a sketch, and all the previous sketches.
Overall external dimensions must still be 215 x 45 mm.
Thickness of the drilled plate should be 0.8 mm now.
Oh, and a note from Lucille: We don’t have the 5-axis machines running at the moment now, so everything has to be machinable on a simple XYZ rectilinear mill. No crazy overhangs please!
Go get 'em!
