Where The Bloody Hell Is Everyone? 😂
You Can Lead People to an Event… But Can You Make the Buggers Turn Up? 😂
Well, that was the big question at today's Coffee, Chat & Collab!
And rather amusingly, several people who voted to discuss getting people to show up didn't actually show up themselves. Oh, the irony! 🤣
We had a cracking conversation, though, with some very useful experiences shared.
Chris apparently thinks 3 AM is a perfectly reasonable time to get up for an event but in fairness he is showing up for when his audience is around so he is showing up so his audience shows up. I can assure you, it isn't happening in my house 🫣 because me and 3am dont get along 😂
Chef Andrew shared how simply asking his community which times suited them made a difference to attendance. He also reminded us that an event with nobody watching isn't necessarily wasted. Record it, repurpose it and make something useful out of it. Great advice.
Angela shared the frustration of promoting a free workshop everywhere, only to have one person turn up. Something I suspect quite a few event hosts can relate to! But she left feeling encouraged that despite that she is on the right track and to carry on because it does happen.
And Rena talked about using scheduling tools to keep event promotion going without having to remember every single post.
We also got into some of my favourite subjects: posting and ghosting, building genuine relationships, following up with interested people and actually giving your audience a reason to come.
Because putting up one event post and hoping the entire population of Skool will suddenly appear is rather optimistic, don't you think? 😁
Then Chef Andrew introduced us to the wonderful idea of adding a little whimsy to what we do.
He's talking about food, of course, but it applies beautifully to events. A bit of personality, something unexpected, a little humour. Stop making everything so terribly serious!
We also talked about collaborations, featuring other community members, using short videos and why making friends across communities can be far more valuable than endlessly shouting about your next event.
And yes, I conducted a little experiment of my own. I deliberately didn't chase people to attend this time, just to see what happened.
Unfortunately, some of you buggers turned up and ruined my experiment. 😂
A big thank you to everyone who joined in. These conversations are exactly why I enjoy doing them. We learn from each other's experiences, have a laugh and usually come away with something useful.
Our next Coffee, Chat & Collab is on 26/27 October, and Des will be joining me this time.
Come along, bring your questions and your sense of humour. You never quite know where the conversation will end up!
VIP members can catch the recording soon in the VIP classroom ❤️
