Parents: What Might Your Child Be Making of the Moment?
Energy-Wise LIVE call 𝗧𝗵𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝟭𝘀𝘁 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟴:𝟬𝟬𝗽𝗺 𝗠𝗲𝗹𝗯𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲, 𝗔𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗮 (𝗔𝗘𝗦𝗧) Something I’ve become fascinated by is the tiny gap between 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀 and 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘀. * A child ignores an instruction. The parent thinks, “𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘺’𝘳𝘦 𝘥𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘣𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘺 𝘥𝘦𝘧𝘺𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘦.” * A child rolls their eyes. The parent thinks, “𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘯𝘰 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘵 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘮𝘦.” * A child melts down over something small. The parent thinks, “𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘺’𝘳𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘦𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘺 𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨.” Often we don’t even notice that we’ve interpreted the situation. It simply feels like that’s what happened. But our children are doing exactly the same thing. They are experiencing moments with us, at school, with siblings and with friends - and creating their own personal meaning from those experiences. And sometimes a meaning can become something much bigger: * “𝘐’𝘮 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘵.” * “𝘐 𝘢𝘭𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴 𝘨𝘦𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘸𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘨.” * “𝘗𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘷𝘦.” * “𝘐 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘧𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘦 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘥.” At our next 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆-𝗪𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹, we’re going to slow this process down and explore the space between: 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 → 𝗠𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 → 𝗕𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗳 We’ll look at how easily we create meaning ourselves, and then turn our curiosity toward what a child may be experiencing beneath the behaviour we see. This is for parents of sensitive, ADHD and neurodivergent children who want to understand those confusing or disproportionate reactions at a deeper level, without assuming they already know what the behaviour means. 𝗧𝗵𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝟭𝘀𝘁 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟴:𝟬𝟬𝗽𝗺 𝗠𝗲𝗹𝗯𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲, 𝗔𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗮 (𝗔𝗘𝗦𝗧) Bring along a real parenting moment if you have one. We may discover that the most interesting question isn’t simply, “𝘞𝘩𝘺 𝘥𝘪𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘥𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵?” It might be: “𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺?” Join the Energy-Wise Parenting Hub

@Des Dreckett they certainly will have a different view of things
Parents Do you ask “Why are you doing this?”
'Energy-Wise LIVE' call 𝗧𝗵𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟰𝘁𝗵 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟴:𝟬𝟬𝗽𝗺 𝗠𝗲𝗹𝗯𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲, 𝗔𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗮 (𝗔𝗘𝗦𝗧) One thing I’ve learned over the years is that asking “𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀?” doesn’t always get you very far with a child who is already overwhelmed. Sometimes they genuinely don’t know. That’s why I’ve become much more interested in the questions we ask 𝗮𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 the reaction. What happened just before it? What changed and when? What was happening in the room? What became active in the parent? Has this same pattern happened somewhere else and is there a connection? And what might the child be experiencing underneath the behaviour that they can’t yet explain? That’s the kind of exploration we do inside my weekly Energy-Wise Parenting live calls. If you’re parenting a sensitive, ADHD or neurodivergent child and there are reactions in your home that leave you thinking, “𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗼𝗻 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗱?”, bring one of those moments along. We’ll slow it down and look at what may be worth noticing before assuming the behaviour itself is the whole story. @Heather Wilson so easy for us as parents to dismiss the 'I don't know ' as not true, we expect them ti be able to tell us what's happening for them. However it really is true that theycan be having an experience and not be able to explain it.

@Heather Wilson yes, indeed. Then there are the times, when a child knows what they are experiencing belongs to someone else but knows it is not acceptable to say that, because can react badly
My Curiosity Is Killing Me 😬
Des and I would love to get some feedback from you in relation to the articles we provide in the Weekly Events Bulletin that goes here , there and everywhere. This will help us moving forward with what we have planned, which of course I know we haven't let you in on our plans as yet, but that time is coming soon my friends. So, please take part in our poll and tell us which articles you read in the Weekly Events edition .

Parents and families remember this...
𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆-𝗪𝗶s𝗲 𝗟𝗜𝗩𝗘 𝗧𝗵𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟰𝘁𝗵 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟴:𝟬𝟬𝗽𝗺 𝗠𝗲𝗹𝗯𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲, 𝗔𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗮 (𝗔𝗘𝗦𝗧) I’ve been reminded very clearly today, as I live the grief that is present, that we don’t walk into our family interactions as blank slates. We bring ourselves with all that is going on. Sometimes that means calm and patience. Other times it might be stress, frustration, fear, tiredness or grief. And that doesn’t make the emotion wrong. What matters is whether we’re aware of what is active in us, or whether it is quietly becoming part of the interaction between us and our children without us noticing. That’s part of what we’ll be exploring in tonight’s 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆-𝗪𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹. If you’re parenting a sensitive, ADHD or neurodivergent child and you’ve ever wondered why a reaction suddenly became so big, or why you found yourself responding in a way you didn’t intend, bring that moment along. We’ll slow it down, look beneath the obvious behaviour, and explore what else may have been active in the child, the parent or the shared emotional space. @Heather Wilson We don't usually think about in those terms. But we don't live in a way that has us so present to the moment; that we have no other thoughts or feelings happening.
