Financing Cohousing with Lysa Dixon-Thursday 7:00-8:00
This Thursday, August 6 at 7:00 PM, I’m pleased to welcome mortgage professional Lysa Dixon as our guest on the Shared Home Ownership Victoria Skool call. https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86950845232?pwd=yG Lysa brings a valuable combination of mortgage expertise and firsthand cohousing experience. She lives at Little Mountain Cohousing in Vancouver and has helped purchasers evaluate affordability and obtain financing for strata-titled cohousing homes. Lysa comes highly recommended by Jill Marchand, another Skooler, who recently introduced us to the Esquimalt Village Cohousing Project. We’ll discuss how cohousing and other shared purchases are viewed by lenders, what prospective buyers should do to prepare financially and some of the opportunities and challenges involved in financing these less-traditional forms of home ownership. Thursday, August 6 at 7:00 PM Join our Zoom conversation https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86950845232?pwd=yG Meeting ID: 869 5084 5232 A Market with More Breathing Room The latest published Victoria Real Estate Board figures showed 4,054 active listings at the end of June—7.3% more than a year earlier. VREB describes the market as active and balanced, with buyers having more options and more time to make informed decisions. More inventory and longer selling periods don’t guarantee that every seller will negotiate, but they can create opportunities to discuss price, conditions and possession dates. For people considering a shared purchase, this market may also provide the time needed to arrange financing, complete inspections, obtain independent legal advice and carefully work through ownership, expense-sharing and exit arrangements. If cohousing, co-ownership or simply finding a more affordable path into the market interests you, please join us Thursday evening and bring your questions.
Esquimalt Village Cohousing Presentation
Today we hosted Jill Marchand, a fellow Skool member and one of the future owners in the new Esquimalt Village Cohousing Project, located at Esquimalt and Fernhill Roads, across from Esquimalt Plaza and the Archie Browning Sports Centre in the heart of Esquimalt. Jill talks about how the dream is coming alive and how the members themselves are helping to shape the project’s design, values and community culture. Following its recent unanimous rezoning approval, plans are moving forward for 34 strata condominiums complemented by common spaces, 2 guest suites, a common kitchen, gardens, workshop, bike storage and other shared spaces. The goal is to create an inclusive, lively and supportive neighbourhood where residents can enjoy the privacy of their own homes while also benefiting from connection, cooperation and neighbors who genuinely know and support one another. Jill is part of our Skool Community so you are welcome to send her a message through the "Members Tab" on the menu tabs above. I will be creating an actual Classroom for the Esquimalt Village Cohousing group, where they can keep us updated on the project, so stay on the lookout for that. Also they have a regular Meet and Greet for coffee every Thursday morning at Serious Coffee 27-1153 Esquimalt Rd upstairs at 10:00-12:00. See the calendar for reminders. Judy and I are putting the meeting on our calendar of recurring events, so we are reminded to stop in for coffee with like minded people. Everyone is welcome to stop in and catch up on what they are doing. Here's their website. https://evcohousing.ca/events
