Hope in the Storm | Video Devotional | January 7, 2026
Matthew 7:24-27 - Hope in the Storm Key phrase: Matthew 7:25 "And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock." Devotional: Jesus doesn't promise that the wise builder avoids the storm—He promises they survive it. Read it again: the rain came down on both houses. The streams rose against both foundations. The winds blew and beat against both structures. The storm didn't discriminate. Following Jesus doesn't mean you get a storm-free life—it means you get an unshakable foundation when the storm inevitably comes. The foolish builder wasn't foolish because he experienced hardship; he was foolish because he built his hope on something that couldn't hold him when everything fell apart. Sand looks stable when the weather is calm. It's easy to build on career success, relationships, financial security, or even your own strength when life is going well. But when the diagnosis comes, when the relationship ends, when the job disappears, when anxiety overwhelms—that's when you discover what you've really been standing on. The question isn't if the storm will come. It's where are you putting your hope? A life built on Jesus isn't necessarily storm-free, but it's secure. It's hopeful. Because the Rock doesn't shift when everything else does. Reflection: What "sand" have you been building on—things that feel stable now but won't hold when the storm comes? Where is God inviting you to transfer your hope from temporary stability to the unshakable foundation of Christ? Prayer Prompt: Thank God that He doesn't promise to remove every storm, but He does promise to be the foundation that never fails. Confess the places where you've been building your security on things that can't ultimately hold you—success, control, others' approval, your own efforts. Ask Him to help you dig deep and build your life on Him, trusting that when the inevitable storms come, you'll stand firm not because you avoided hardship, but because your hope is anchored in the One who cannot be moved.
